Duomatic for 1963

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I have more photos to post, will try to do that in the next couple of days.

The Duomatic gas combo is so cool. In 1959 Philco had redesigned the Duomatic from the larger, 36" version down to this 27" wide model. Toggle, the mechanism you see between the water valve and the main drive pulley is indeed a blower damper. The blower is driven directly from the transmission by a "jack shaft" and runs continuously through the cycle. To keep water out of the blower mechanism, there is a damper that seals the blower opening in the tub until the drying cycle when it opens and allows air to flow through the burner (which is below the tub on the right side looking from the back - behind the blower at about 5 o'clock). It's a very cool design and should give Steve hours of fun.

Hey Steve, I hear you have the 63 Kenmore Greg had on ebay awhile back. I'd love to watch a load sometime and see all the othe goodies you've gotten since my last trip over. That duomatic is a beauty!

Wow Nice Find

Now that's a beautiful machine! I think there has been a POD with Dash showing the Top loader version of this machine, but this is the first I've seen of the Duomatic, congrats Steve!

re just like what i did this easter too!!

sorry guys, my camera must have reset itself to higher definition, so i cannot upload the photos of my washer dryer Duo being stripped down this easter, however i have managed to add them to my put file website , the latest ones are the top 6. I have great difficulty with digital micro chip blue tooth blah blah blah technology, spanners, belts, pulleys i understand!

Hi mistervain my bendix had been delivered to a house in Leeds north england, brand new and sat in the owners pantry until a property developer bought the house after the previous owner died, he then sold it on ebay. It had all original as new papers taps soap etc. the only thng i need is the badge that sits on the front right hand side. its my only day to day washer and is used 3 times a week and works very well.

Robert - the top load washer version of that machine (Miss America of course)was indeed featured in the 1967 Dash detergent ad. It was also featured in the 1963 Tide ad (haven't seen that as a pic of the day in quite a long time) with Mrs Leon Thompson of Westerly, NY and her 6 athletic children.

The dryer version was the one recently found by Jimmy (Filter-Flo) at that revolting house...

Those machines do still take my breath away....
