I have 13 yr old WP DW-that has a center post fixed to the bottom rack that shoots water into the spray directly below the top rack, 5.3 Amp motor-no repairs. Electrasol and Sunlight suds up in the machine that I have to run twice empty to remove the suds. Based on advice from an Appliance tech-he suggested Cascade and use only 1 tblsp of detergent per cup. It was the temperature of the water that cleaned the dishes and not so much the detergent and the manufacturers want you to use both cups and fill them so will buy more detergent. He also said to use 1 cap of Tang to an empty machine and that will clean the machine. Any one try this? I now use Cascade powder 1 tblsp per cup and no sudsing. Also, Wegmans brand(local supermarket) no problem. These are the only two that do not suds. Also, the tablets and packets are out. Any advice? I could not use Electrasol from day one-I was thinking maybe its the water. Thank you.

Same issue here...

I have a Kenmore Elite dishwasher that several detergents would suds up in. I can't remember now which ones were the problem but I think it was tablets and liquids that would suds up. By the way, the problem for my dishwasher was that the suds in the water caused a sudslock and, basically, the pump just sucked in air instead of water and nothing was getting washed.

The only detergent I've used that does not suds up at all is Cascade Complete Powder and it does a great job cleaning. Give it a try if you haven't already. It might help save you from those extra washes and the costs.

I agree with Jon, I use Cascade Complete with Bleach and it does not suds for me. So many others were real problems.

Another factor to consider

is the hardness of the water. Harder the water, fewer the suds. Also, depends on the machine...I mean European machines have the water softener built in.

So, I think it's a question of trying detergents, and seeing which brand and type works best in your combination of machine and water.

And of Course...

...You should never do what my other half did once. I was out getting groceries, he decided to start the dishwasher, found that we were out of DW detergent (one of the reasons I was out getting groceries, honey!), and decided that he'd use...

...a nice big squeeze of Dawn in each detergent cup!

I came in with bags of groceries just in time for the avalanche of suds that erupted all over the floor. It looked like a hard winter in Fargo in that kitchen.

Once I got everything cleaned up and back to normal (which took hours), we sat down and had ourselves a lil' talk. He doesn't fool with the appliances much any more...

A local repair shop told me the same thing to clean my dishwasher. Use TANG! I haven't tried it yet, but who knows!!

Tang

has a hefty percentage of citric acid, which will de-scale. It's effective, and smells ok, but I prefer to use pure citric acid, which can be had at the pharmacy counter.

Here is a forgotten hint from days gone by: if you have a dw that has no rinse-aid dispenser, put 1 tsp. of regular laundry borax in the machine during the wash cycle. It helps soften the water to prevent spotting.

Cape Cod Here

Eddie here.
On the Cape we have fairly Hard Water. I use Cascade with Power Shine Powder . I buy it at BJ's Wholesale. I use it in all my machines. From the '57 KD2-P,70's Mobile Maid, the KDS-18, and the 2004 Kenwhirl, and I do not use Jet Dry or any other drying agent. Even in the '57 KA, fantastic results. The 57 has 1 Wash,1 1/2 min first rinse and a 60 sec, final rinse. No Spots. I just have this thing about something coating the dishes on the last rinse with "something" that makes it dry spot free. At least the Cascade has rinsed off a few times. Wierd Huh ?????

Agree no rinse agent

I agree with Eddie I just use detergent for the DW also, don't like idea of coating on dishes. Same for laundry, my grandmother used 1 cup of white vinegar to final rinse-seem to work on whites if I add clorox, neutralizes the water. I was fond of "Rainbarrel" fabric softner that was added to wash cycle-and there was "Solo" detergent and fabric softner-never used it but new people that loved it.

Cascade with Dawn Capsules

Were the worst on my Maytag Talltub. Suds everywhere, and suds lock, with bad cleaning, on normally a fabulous dishwasher.

Cascade Complete is the best in powder. Phosphates seem to translate better to powder.
I think P&G had the crack pipe out when they decided that a detergent for sink washing could be combined with a detergent for dishwashing, albeit modified. Phosphates cut grease, thats what is in dishwasher detergent, we don't need a pretty blue gel to think we are getting a better job done.
So silly.

I use the Cascade Complete with Bleach and love it. Never had a suds problem and I have a water softener.

Our Siemens has to cope with suds every time I use a detergent with built-in rinse aid and salt. I'm just using Fairy Active Bursts, which look identical to the Cascade Action Pacs and sometimes have suds in the main wash. My bag of Active Bursts is almost empty and I'll return to Miele powder again.

All DW detergents here over suds for me. I even get some oversudsing in the last rinse with Jet Dry. I don't like Cascade, so I have stuck with Electrosol powder because I get great results from it. I also have a WP dishwasher that is about 13 years old...

Check the water temp

Hi I moved from one apartment to another with the same dishwasher model, the thing was foaming and leaking and i was using the same detergent. It turned out the water heater temp was set to high, and this caused the water to create foam so try turning down the water heater temp.
