How long did your Maytag TL last? May I ask why after such a short life with the MT TL (I don't think it is more than a few years old????), did you not go with SQ TL for longer life? I understand if you don't want to answer that.

Since I have a Maytag TL (the mvwp575gw), your post concerns me as I know you took good care of your washer like I do mine. I am not looking to replace my washer as long as something similar will be available later whether I have to replace it more often or not.

Thank you for sharing the information on the Roper and its model number. Nice to know there are some inexpensive options out there. I hope it continues to be available in the future. I will continue to watch for your future posts on this machine.

Can you control the wash temperature for the cycle with the spray wash?

I had my Maytag Centennial for 2 1/2 years, and during that time I was very pleased with it, except for the last 2 mo. before I replaced it. And the problem was first the very loud noise during the spin, then for the last couple of weeks the finished loads more wet than before. Since it was going to be at least $300.00 to repair I opted to replace it with the Roper. And being a washer junkie, like I suspect many of us are on this site, I wasn't adverse to having a reason to buy a new washer, LOL.

I like the Whirlpool TL’s with agitators performance, and I really like simplicity too, so the Roper seemed like a good choice to me, and I’m not sorry that I bought it.

I have many reasons why I prefer not to buy a Speed Queen, which I’ll keep to myself out of respect for all the SQ aficionados here. Different strokes for different folks, we can’t all like the same things. I did however come close about 5 years ago to buying a SQ FL, before the new design, when they were still basic knob controlled machines, but I just couldn’t justify spending so much, especially when I already know that I may grow tired of it and want something new anyway, even if I like the machine. And I don’t have the option space wise to have a stable of many washers to satisfy my need for variety, only one at a time in my casa.

And finally to answer your question about the water temp control for the spray rinse, its only cold, and the deep rinse in cold too. Interestingly, if you select the Normal/Heavy option the Hot water is essentially the same temp as my water heater., and the warm it warmer too. I did see a You Tube video that shows how to remove the temp sensor from the water inlet valve control, it looks very easy to do, but I’m happy with it just as it is, so I’ll leave this alone.

The Amana NTW4516 is the same as my Roper. If you really read the owners manual and use the machine as instructed for its design its a great performer. The capacity is equivalent of the MT it replaced. With the Bulky cycle I can wash a kingsize bedspread, blanket or comforter, and they turn over too. The spin balance performance is flawless. I can wash 2 or 3 area rugs with the rubber tub mat and it spins beautifully. The main beef I have with the new FL’s is the temperamental spins for most of them.

Certainly disappointing that it only lasted 2.5 years in a two-man household with a knowledgeable user.

 

Wonder if you just got a lemon or if they are failing early in large numbers.

Main Water Seals Failing

This is a very common problem especially likely in hard water areas or if the user is using too little or cheap detergents.

 

It was differently not worth fixing, part alone costs around $300.

 

These washers do work, WP is building and selling millions of them per year, but when I use them in the shop I see many reasons why one would never be invited into my home laundry room.

 

They are simply too hard on clothing, Do Not wash large items uniformly, and take far too long filling and completing a cycle.

 

Hi Eddie And you are now up to what I paid [ $732 ] for my Speed Queen FL washer in 2005 which has never missed a beat and I will be surprised if it ever will in the next 20+ years.

John, we do have extremely hard water here. I always used either Tide, Persil or Gain, in the correct amounts, so it must have been the hard water that caused the failure. I never failed to run a Clean cycle every 30 days, even though just about every load was washed in hot water.

I haven’t found these washers to be hard on our clothing, and they get things clean. Some cycles are very long, I don’t use them unless necessary. The Reg/Normal cycle auto sense takes exactly 35 mins., I think thats pretty fast, and its effective.

And when I considered buying a SQ FL in 2014 the price was around $1575.00, so by the time tax and delivery was added it was close to 2 grand, too much for me.

At least I’m contributing to the economy with my washer addiction. There are worse vices than buying washing machines LOL. Before I retired I used to buy a new car every 1 to 2 years, no can do that anymore, but a new washer every few years is still within my means.
