hey all, wanted to ask for help with an early 70s ka dishwasher. when i got the machine i had to test it out, it ran fine but was a bit noisy, the second time i ran it- it was even louder, and the third time i ran it the motor burned up. so i found a motor and replaced it and that took care of the noise now she runs nice and quiet. but then every time i used it the machine would quit during the fill of the third rinse, like the whole machine went dead so i thought it had a bad spot on the timer, so i got a new timer but the machine sill quits druing the fill on the third rinse..does anyone have any idea whats up?? it just seems odd to me and i cant figure it out thanks chris

On certain models, a failed water heating element, thermostat, detergent dispenser bi-metal actuator or bad electrical connections in the respective circuits can create a situation you've described. The wiring diagram should reveal whether your machine is designed this way.

the machine is a superba. the det despencers work when they should but i dont have a clue as to the heat element i didnt think the heat ele was used in the reg cycle i thought it was used on the sani cycle only?

On all the wash cycles other than Sani Cycle, the machine stops for one timer increment after the 3rd rinse fill (which is a short, approx 1 gallon fill). This segment would be the heating period of the sani cycle, and in fact the element does energize during this segment (you can hear the water "sizzle" if the room is very quiet and you listen very closely). On Sani Cycle, the timer motor stops at this segment and doesn't start again until the 180 deg. thermostat is triggered. But the timer motor doesn't stop on the other cycles, so the pump starts back up on the next increment.

Could this be what is happening?

You can check the schematic diagram to see what is going on at that timer increment. You say it stops like it's dead....do the indicator lights go out or stay on...do you hear the whirr of the timer motor? Does it happen on any of the shorter,'party' cycles? Superbas varied the cycles quite a bit...lengthened some parts and skipped over others...not just an abbreviated version of the 'daily loads' cycle.

thanks deeptub for the info i had no idea it did such a thing i will run it tonight and see if thats what its doing..very interesting ..but your right the fill is very short so maybe its just a heating pause..will try it again

Chris, how are things going with your KitchenAid?

I was running mine last night and noticed that it IS a startling, "something's wrong" sound when the motor that's been running constantly for 22 minutes suddenly stops mid-rinse.

Hope yours is ok.

T.

its ok

seems thats what it was doing just a pause to heat up the its fine..ha ha guess i just either didnt wait long enough or she has a mind of her own like my frigidaires but it did work just fine last night so who knows but thanks for all the info
