Hello all and happy new year! I let my friend use my early 1990s hotpoint rim flo washer and here recently it has had a problem with starting up when u start the cycle. My friend said sometimes it will take up to 5 minutes and them automatically start by itself. Any ideas on what part this could be goin bad?

More than likely it has something to do with the timer. Do you mean that when you pull the knob to start nothing at all happens but then in 5 minutes all of a sudden it starts filling?

I recently brought home a washer than sat in storage for 12 years. When I turned it on nothing happened and then it started working on it’s own. If this is the case with yours I would say maybe the contacts in the timer just need to be cleaned. Worst case the timer would have to be replaced.

Great looking Hotpoint

Nice looking washer. That looks like a fancier version of the Hotpoint set that my parents had from 1984 (purchased new) to about 2010. I remember replacing the belt and the pump once and that was all.

You should post the model and serial number here. I'll bet that washer is older than early '90s.

Hope you get the delayed start issue fixed (and I agree that it sounds like a timer issue).

Yes that’s what happens, set the cycle and she said sometimes it takes up to 5 minutes then it will start filling on its own. I was thinking timer or lid switch? She said she thought it was normal because it was a older washer lol. Here are a few more pics!

well now thats an issue I never heard before....

but just the same, would not hurt to rule out the lid switch first...by-pass the switch and see what happens...

keep us posted....curious to know what the issue is

I’ve been to her house one time for just a few minutes an didn’t get to check it out but as soon as I can stay longer I’ll look at it better an give an update. Thanks everyone for your input!
