Earth Kitt has passed on in NYC of colon cancer. What a magnificent talent, it is impossible this time of year to not hear her definitive version of "Santa Baby", and of course many of us will always remember her as Catwoman.

Long ago when I learned that James Dean considered Miss Kitt a pal and counselor, I knew she was good people. And much as I loathe most holiday music anymore and the materialism associated with the season, for me Miss Kitt's rendition of "Santa Baby" is a pleasure to hear any time of the year.
News like this makes me feel older all the time. Now I know how my parents must have felt when people like Dick Powell and Clark Gable passed on.
