here is a question does anyone now or in the past have or had one of these? I did years and years ago and that one ran great, but then I sold it. so when I found another one I bought it but this one has issues. ran fine empty put the little tub in agi fine but squalled on spin, added some oil to the case seemed better washed some socks was ok spun ok at first then began to really squall so I let it sit refilled it now its louder than ever with a squall and a loud ratcheting sound during agi and spin so I drained it took the tub out and still all the noise. I kinda think it crapped out. I want to take the trans out and crack it open but the the life of me I cant figure out how to get the trans-shaft assy out. has anyone else taken one of these apart? I really cant hurt it much since I kinda killed it. oopps

I have one with similar problems. Both agitation and spin is extremely slow. Am planning on a complete tear down in the future. Someone posted a thread a while ago with pictures of a complete tear down, but I haven't had success finding it.

I rebuit a Whirldry a while back.

Here is the link to those threads. I also FINALLY figured out a belt that works on these machines. Let me know if you want more info on the belt. It's not a perfect solution, but it seems to work.

ha ha well got the belt off its chewed all up so any info on a belt will be awesome im gonna stop by the vac store and see if they have anything like that, maybe that's part of the prob. but when it did run it ran as full speed
 
Neat!  I never knew there was a table-top washer like this that had a spin option.  The ones I've seen have always been wringer models.    Can you post a few more pictures, Chris?
 
hey hows my fave dude?? well I looked for a belt tried the local vacuum store but no luck I wonder if the belt is the cause of all this trouble I sure hope so.. anyway I need to recharge the cam battery so I just did a google for a few pics its actually pretty good size

Belt Info

I was never able to find an exact replacement flat belt for the Whirldry.

The only thing I have found that works is to take a Mitsuboshi 3L220 v-belt (got mine from a local Ace Hardware), flip it inside out and run it on the wide outside edge.

Since the v-belt is thicker than the original flat belt it takes my Whildry a few seconds to come up to full speed.

awesome advice on the belt found one and that is much better, but another question it still squalls on spin from the upper end of the shaft is there some sort of brg up in there? id take it apart if I could get that damn nut off inside the tub.
 
I don't recall a bearing on the top of the shaft. I'll look at mine again.

Yeah, that tub nut was the WORST part of the restoration. I ended up beating mine off with a hammer and chisel.
 
There is not a bearing at the top. The spin shaft is inside of the agitate tube. It might be worth trying to run some oil down between the spin shaft and agitate tube to see if that helps your problem. In the long run, it's probably not the ideal solution since I'm betting that the old oil in the transmission is nasty and un-useful anyway.

There isn't a water seal between the spin tube and agitate shaft. If the Whirldry was ever overfilled with water then there is a good chance that water got between the shaft and tube. You might have some corrosion between the parts as well as water in the transmission to deal with.

Does the wash basket hold tightly to the spin shaft? If not, you might be getting some noise from the basket rattling around while its spinning.
 
the basket sits tight so that seems ok. I did try and get oil down the spin shaft where it sits inside the agi shaft but the oil did not flow down into the shafts, even let it sort of pool up and let it sit but the oil dosnt drain down into the shafts. I just need to get that nut off and drop the unit to tinker more.
 
hey toby thanks for all your advice I think were fixed or at least for now. got a belt figured out a way to get oil into the trans with out taking it out since that was not going to happen put a little grease on the spline end of the spin shaft and for now its quiet
 
for now its taped up and holds water but im gonna have to work on that for sure. wonder if there is anything that can be refitted to work
