Hello everybody,
Thought there may be a few intersted in a vintage ad from the 1974 Eaton's Christmas catalog...I believe these Viking-brand (Eaton's in-house brand) washers and dryers were made by G.E. as they often came with the filter-flo system.

Also, note the Simplicity SuperTwin! Loved those machines!

Oh lordy, how I used to look forward to getting the annual Eaton's Christmas catalog!
Yep - the washers and dryer were definitely made by GE and badged as Vikings. Our family's second automatic washer was the next model down from the one shown in the picture.
Simplicity made the wringers, too.
Foolishly gave away a 79 Viking BOL washer before I moved in 2007... SIGH!!

One other thing I noticed, the warranty on the wringer, and twin tub is for 2yrs, the automatic washer and dryer is only for 1yr each.

Not sure... Eaton's tried to use Canadian-made models for their rebadges... Once upon a time though, Norge was allied with a Canadian manufacturer called Moffat. That was in the mid-to-late 50's for sure and possibly into the 60's too. There was a Quebec-based manufacturer called Roy whose refrigerators in the mid-60's looked very Norge-like too.

Super-Twin

From what I have gathered the Speed-Queen/Simplicity twin tub machines were never marketed in the US? I'd love to find one of these are they're a non-impeller based twin tub, they have a standard agitator w/transmission. I know they're built by Servis and imported, they're just a rebadged Server Super-Twin hence the name. There was an ad on the POD I think a while back or it might have been a Google image that showed this machine with a matching portable dryer and stacking stand. Can anyone confirm that these machine were Canada only? Man I'd love to find one.

Yep, they were sold in Canada only. Man, one turned up on Craiglist Toronto earlier this summer... I am sure I posted it here - I'll see if I can scare it up with the <Search-O-Later>!

SPEED QUEEN twin tub spinner washers.....

....were available in the U.S. My great Aunt Margaret had one for 6 years in between her 1961 FRIGIDAIRE Deluxe Three Ring Agitator model and her 1971 Jet action 1-18 Imperial. She would have kept the SQ had she not had a hysterectomy causing her not to be able to switch the heavy, wet garments from wash to spin tubs. Before she bought the 1-18s though, her septic tank had to be removed and the city installed sewerage in her neighborhood eliminating the need to have the tank. She loved that because her sewerage would back up during drainage of the wash water and cause a mess if you let the washer run on its own.

Super Twin

Hey Tim ... here is a copy of that other ad you were speaking of.

Gary ... if your grandmother doesn't use her Simplicity, consider asking her for it - I'm sure there would be a few of us interested in it!

Thank You Brad!

That's so flippin awesome! I would love to happen about a set of these, I'm assuming the dryer is a Servis also? They're just so neat, I really like that Servis deisgn, been watching a few on YouTube and they're cool.

Brad,

I know that my grandmother does not use it as she can no longer live in her house (she is 101 yrs old) and now lives in long term care at the hospital. I am waiting for my uncle (her son) to decide what he is going to do with the house & contents. Unfortunately the twin tub is a 10 hour drive away from me.

The dryer's optional rack is much like the Hoover's

I got the stack rack with my Hoover 0519 set, the 0910 dryer sits on top of the washer on a rickety rack. Anyway the Simplicity dryer stand reminds me of Hoover's. It looks odd stacked, the 30" wide washer and the 24" wide dryer on top. Now the Maytag Porta-Pair look nice stacked, both are 24" wide. You know it's weird but the Maytag A50 holds as much water as the Hoover twin tubs even though the machine is 5" narrower and not as long? I thought it was strange, but it's also strange how the A50 moves things around. If it had a bigger tub it would be scary. Just my 2 cents.

My dryer rack is dissolving, it appears to be some sort of aluminum? and it's actually sort or rusting, but without rust, just crumbling, which sucks because it's a rare piece. I'd like to find a Porta-Pair stand as well, but I'm not holding my breath.
