and our 9560 must of been edging £600 back in 1987. IIRC £550 or so.

1300rpm, the first UK machine to beat 1200rpm.
Digital display and a host of options.

Although it spun at 1400rpm so was the fastest UK machine for a good while.

Beat Hoover to 1400 by 7 years.....

Makes you wonder if the likes of modern Miele machines are over engineered and have unneccessary refinements really,

Hotpoint could of really tweaked their design and ironed out the creases to make something really fab to last without laying on the OTT materials.

For instance

* Crewe has many concrete buildings that have stood the test of time in all weathers since the 1950's, can a concrete block not be made for a washing machine like this to save the waste use of cast iron weights?
Older ones are prone to crumbling,

*OTT Chrome doors that never seem to wear out, I mean the lighter less wasteful chrome doors of the 70's are still going strong on the machines they are still attached to.

They just needed that more resilient motor and stronger bearings and they would of been onto a sure winner.

Well, it’s true, but I do often look at my washer and think that some higher-end Hotpoints from yesteryear still managed to do a good job with good enough materials. As I’ve said before, we didn’t really need Mieles before the mid 1990s or so.

I’ll be having words with you very shortly!

By comparison,

Odd how the 95450/2 only cost a mere £5 more than the 95360.
Maybe the Auto Prewash feature swung alot of people or the 95360 was not worth stocking due to the slight difference in price to retailers which makes thins machine so damned rare.

IIRC the 95450 was £350 vs £345 of the 95360

Yowzers, the 95360 was my childhood machine!! looooooved it!!! It got replaced by an Asko 10504 which at the time was great but looking back it was no fun compared to the Hotpoint, hope you guys are going to restore the ol timer dial to the brown 'see-through' dial...jeez, when i saw that pic it brought the memories flooding back!

Good find guys and if your other restorations are anything to go by, you'll do it proud :-D

All coming out of the woodwork this year arnt they!!!grab em while you can!!!

As time told us "What Hotpoint needed to do was Iron In Some Creases"...the problem with the new gen machines was their flat panel cabinets, too thin & flimsey on the higher spin speeds to withstand longtime stress levels.... the first batch of 1400spin microtronics had an audible & visible resonance at about 1200rpm...the panels would vibrate and give off their own audible sound!!!

I was at Agri Electrics when the New Generation was launched, such an exciting time, the ammount of money that Hotpoint must have invested was phenomenal, each store could have grey stands / back panels / kitchen units for all the ranges of laundry, refrigeration, cooking & vacs!!!a complete range of brown covered sales training books...Oh to find them now!!!

Always have personally thought the 95 seires from the 80's were much prettier than the earlier and later Hotpoints.

I am right in thinking the ones which span above 1000 only actually span at top speed for 30 seconds aren't I?

I remeber reading a while ago about tests which were done in the late 80s which showed that some machines spinning at between 750-1000rpm actucally extracted more water than some spinning at 1200-1400.

No brands were mentioned but I'm guessing these Hotpoints were some of the fast spinning machines they were referring to!

Hi Pedro....

quick question for you.

Which of the dials below was fitted to the 95360?

The one on the left was fitted to my mothers 95452 and godmothers 95450.
Now I am assuming that this dial was fitted to the chrome door 'de luxe' machines of 95450/452 (800rpm) and 95470/472 and 95490/492 (the latter two series being 1000rpm).

Me and rob also have a number of the type of dial that appears on the right! Am I right in thinking that this dial - with red 'o' for off positions (rather than orange 'o' for off) - was fitted to the 95130/132 and 95360/362 non 'de luxe' models, or were the two and three button machines also fitted with the orange 'o' dial?

OR

Was there a forth dial version (after the green dial fitted to the 95620/622)?

Be great to know which dial to apply when restoration time comes.

The controls, if you’ll excuse the pun, instantly ‘click’ with me, as I remember seeing many a Hotpoint like these in the 1980s at neighbours’ and friends’ homes. Well, those and a sprinkling of Zanussis and a Hoover Logic.

(Hello, Mike, BTW! My Kirby G4 sits in the cloakroom, where it lives with the coats, shoes and the Henry! LOL The Kirby was tasked with cleaning my late aunt’s fully carpeted Victorian cottage before being put on the housing market.)

Anyway, back to washers…

I am not sure if I should admit this, but I sometimes think I have about four spare washing machines – a 1980s Hotpoint, a TOL 1990s one, a TOL Hoover New Wave and an early 1990s Zanussi Jetsystem, like my late grandmother’s.

There’s only one problem: I am asleep and dreaming at the time.

It’s happened more than one, too! It’s not fair! Grrr! LOL
