I was looking over photos of somer of your collections of vintage washing machines, and was looking at EDDY1210's collection. Came across a model A-78
Speed Queen washer. What year was this machine made? Seen some old General Electric machines in there, too! Seen an old Frigidaire similar to one we had when I was growing up as well! Vintage or modern,...my two favorite brands are GE and Speed Queen! If I had a GE machine,...I would choose a filter-flo model from 1969 to 1985,...I like the looks of those machines. I would choose just about ANY Speed Queen machine, but I like the appearance of the A-78 in EDDY1210's collection!
No offense to Maytag and Whirlpool fans intended, but I am just not a fan of those brands. Yeah,...I am sure they made great machines in their time, but just not a fan of those.

The A-78 is also a favorite of mine. I hope to find one someday. I got the matching dryer just in case I'd find the washer alone!

They're from the mid-late 1960s (they were introduced in 1966)

Those classic

Speed Queens featured the famous Arc-Cuate 210 transmission, proven in millions of installations. I believe Jetcone has youtube vids of it being cleaned and serviced.

Speed Queen's

were incredible machines. I absolutely love those machines.
I believe that between them and Maytag at the time were both the "best of the best" albeit in very different ways.
The Maytags are softer and gentler and therefore also much quieter.
The Speed Queens are rougher and much noisier machines. They are also extreme water hogs.
But I do love the solid and deep sound of the Speed Queens agitating and even got to relive those sounds the last few days in my own somewhat, Speed Queen system. And a post about that is on it's way at that.
