Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Well and simply explained, Neil.

Yes, and Lewyt had a toothed metal gleaner bar comb/scraper for the tub series and Big Wheel carpet/hard floor nozzles. This bar was spring-loaded (usually the spring is broken) and it was hinged so that it flipped back and forth with the to & fro motion over carpet tufts, hence the famous and singular 'Lewyt Clickety-Clink'.

The nozzles have a regular sprung full length bristle strip at the back that when locked in the extended position, keeps the sprung gleaner from touching the hard flat floor. Later versions for the Big Wheel add front edge rollers that further aid the gliding action.
But when that spring is gone the gleaner is free to drop & flop, scraping on the hard floor. I imagine quite a few waxed floors got disfigured, not to mention chipping the edges of parquet marquetry.

Half the Lewyt nozzles I come across have had the gleaner bar removed.
