Thank you everyone.
Hi Folks,
I have done two loads so far, Cottons 90ºC with prewash and extra rinsing, and Cottons Economy 60ºC. Excellent results, superbly silent, and it appears to rinse well despite its low water level. I’m going to run a load of towels through a rinse in my Top Loader just to make sure. The wash load is kept thoroughly soaked by the Direct Spray through the entire wash and rinse cycles.
The Time Manager system is a great idea; basically it is a six level soil setting which can save over an hour on some cycles for lightly soiled items. An example would be a load of bath towels, no stains and light soiling so a low soil setting will save a lot of time while still maintaining temperature and therefore hygiene. Hotpoint uses a similar system on the Ultima range they call it “Set by how dirty” Light, Normal or Heavy; I was surprised that the Aqualtis had no such option. My Dysons have a soil level button with three settings; Dirt, Dirt & Stains and Heavy Stains but the Dyson varies the period of the Contra Rotation more so than the cycle time though the Dirt setting does save about 10 minutes on a Cottons cycle.
So far I am very impressed by the Insight; the machine is heavy and has a quality feel, the door in particular feels really heavy. Electrolux have abandoned the split cabinet and plastic chassis used on the previous Insight in favour of a rigid welded cabinet with back access panel.
Hi Jon,
They have been using that jet now for a couple years and they describe it as “New Jet with 3 rinses” the yellow fan shaped jet was short lived for some reason. I actually think the jet is very effective; when it gets going it pours the water into the middle of the tumbling wash load, it does hit the door glass for a minute till it gets the air out of the jet nozzle. Yes the paddles surprised me as the 6Kg and 7Kg models have the original Zanussi Electrolux paddles as does my sisters Insight.
The wash cycles are totally different from my sisters machine, firstly it fills without tumbling till about an inch above the rim of the drum then the jet and tumbling starts. The water level is topped up and adjusted but does not come up to the drum rim again. The first stage of tumbling are normal steady speed then when the heating begins the rhythm changes to long tumbles with varying speed from slow to almost distribution speed. I remember my Miele WPS2888 doing something similar. Interestingly the drum is stopped (Braked) by the motor at the end of every tumble and also as the drum slows from a spin. The variable speed wash rhythm is maintained through the entire wash cycle, conventional single speed tumbling is used during the rinses.
Hi Carl,
Yes it is kind of retro looking. Its huge silver door reminds me of the old Philco Bendix washers from the 70s although the Bendix doors were square.
Hi Seamus,
Yes my sister has the EWF14108W and she loves it, they are very impressive machines. I particularly like the commercial laundry type door handle on my sisters machine. Its also nice to see the Tub Unit is not welded on the new Insight or the previous Insight for that matter.
Hi Darren,
No the water is not visible but the jet is highly effective and water is literally pouring out of the load as it tumbles, much wetter than the Aqualtis during Cottons wash, the Aqualtis did fill much deeper during the rinses though.
Hello Alex,
No spin rinse at least on the two Cottons cycles I have used so far. It does spin at 1200RPM after the prewash, wash and every rinse. The brochure says it has “Total Exchange Rinsing” whatever that is LOL but the rinses are not deep even with extra rinsing selected.
Hi Adam,
No distributing full of water so far but the jet does run constantly through the wash and rinse cycles. I have not used the Synthetic or special cycles yet so there are no doubt discoveries to be made.
Sorry for my long post but I wanted to answer everyone.
