Odd I was just watching that tv ad for the Bell & Howell flashlight last night and thinking the same thing.

I guess they figure there are enough oldsters around who could be fooled into thinking these companies are still alive and well.

Another collection of made in china crap that will soon appear as an exclusive "brand" at your local BIG BOX.

Most people are familiar with the Bell & Howell name for one thing - 16mm movie equipment - as they were used in most schools. I certainly don't associate it with flashlights, radios or any of the other cheap junk the B&H name is being pasted on to.

At least with Emerson Quiet Kool the product has the same purpose. I'm surprised Emerson Electric Co. is allowing another company to use the name.

Sometime back somewhere was an article I read on the subject. Iirc in some cases it's basically just a name licensing money-maker for a few marketing firms that bought the original rights from the owners to use them and/or license them out when the companies folded or needed an injection of quick cash.

Emerson Quiet Kool was actually made by Emerson Radio & Phonograph Company, not Emerson Electric. Some of the models even had "Product of Emerson Radio" badges. According to the Appliance Manufacturer magazine that Robert recently made available, Emerson Electric did make its own AC line for a time, but they must not have done very well. Strange since their desk fans were generally the best on the market.
