Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

FWIW, I think it's nice that you guys are sticking up for your friend!

Matt, is that an Australian-made Whirlpool?

no i think this machine is made overseas, i'm not sure tho, English whirlpools have the same design so its hard to tell. 2 days and counting, be prepared for pics and maybe some video.

Matty

I think that Whirlpool is Chinese.

WP source their 2 lowest models from China - the basic model which they claim is 650 rpm spin. (I don't believe that at all, I have seen inside one, based on motor speed and pulley size, which I measured, I reckon it's about 450 to 500 rpm.) this model may now be deleted?? I haven't seen one advertised for a while. They are really old technology, like a 1980s Italian model.
The second model is the 850 rpm model, it looks much better, technology is up to date, and at the price should be a bargain.
Models from 1000 rpm are sourced from Italy except the top couple are from Germany.

congrats, I think you have chosen well.

Chris.

Home design

I don't really think washing machines and laundry habits are very different in the UK to most of the rest of Europe.

The major energy wastage in the UK is probabally the design of homes, lack of insulation etc.

Being in a temperate climate, the UK and Ireland tend to be quite survivable with pretty drafty houses. Many older homes don't even have very basic levels of insultation. i.e. they've single glazing, brick exterior walls with only a cavity as insultation, no roof insultation.

If you're in a more contenantal climate, where cold is REALLY cold in winter, you would definitely have better standards of insultation thus be forced to be a lot more energy efficient.

We really need to look at giving more energy efficiency grants etc

Heating systems in the UK and Ireland (although now to a lesser extent due to grants / incentives) also tend to be grossly inefficient. Many buildings are heated to a level that isn't even comfortable. Older systems don't even use room thermostats!

E.g. if you walk into a typical british high street shop, you'll find it uncomfortably hot in winter and see staff wandering around in skimpy t-shirts.

There is just no concept of efficient use of heating.

We could go a long way by just adding a few simple things like radiator thermostats, more efficient heating systems in large buildings. Turning the temprature down to a barable level etc.

As for Miele ---

Couldn't disagree with that guy more. We've had a Miele washer for almost 10 years and it had one minor repair, a water valve solinoid failed. It cost €65 to repair, including the call out fee which isn't too bad.

The older 5KG machines do have relaitvely small ports on the front of the drum, but in comparison to other machines you can stuff the drum tight. Whatever method of saturating the clothes the machine uses, they're thoroughly wet within a couple of rotations.

Rinses are programmable to be deep extremely deep if you prefer it that way.
It does lots of intermediate high speed spinning to really squeeze out the soap and so far I have never had a single problem with the wash results.

Their service guy, who arrives up in a branded truck, was absolutely professional. His experience was that they don't go wrong very often, and when they do it tends to be something relatively minor and easily fixable.

The internal components of the machine seemed to be layed out in such a way that they were servicable too. Unlike other machines i've seen.

We had one service call quite early on too as my younger brother dragged a sleeping bag zip out over the rubber seal on the door. It sliced through the rim of the seal where it made contact with the glass of the door. Behaved a bit like a bread knife would! That required a new door seal which was pricy enough at the time. But, again, not exactly the manufacturer's fault!

"Oh dear Hoovermatic. Just as i suspected. Your here to stir it up- so who do you work for P and G? Well Ariel sucks. Tell your boss that from me. Not one single positive thread have you made that I can see in the archives. Your profile is empty. You dont share actual washing machine experiences or get involved in other topics. So you just want to wind everyone up when you know full well boil washes are IN with us. Im not rising to your bait. Just letting you know that I know what your upto. So i suggest you dont create threads in this nature,i doubt many people will respond in the future. Your first post on the topic indicated to me where you were going, and you have proven me right. I doubt your actually here as a washer enthusiast"

I didn't set any bait, but you have risen to whatever it is that offends you so much about this thread. BTW - ALL of your trite assumptions are 100% inaccurate and it is lamentable that you should waste your time on such a poorly constructed and limp retort. It is clear that as far as you are concerned, it is wholly unacceptable to disagree or have an opinion that doesn't fall into line with your dogged beliefs. Do not assume to know ANYTHING about me because your attempts thus far have proven you to be a very foolish and poor judge of character.

I made a bobo with my Miele once, leson learned

Mieles are build great. They have great service( and very forgiving) not to mention, the best looking service people that there is. I washed something with Goof off on it(probibly too much goof off on it) for this guy I work with. It ruined the ruber seal around the door, and I was just heartbroken. It leaked all over the floor, and the seal itself reashaped back to its original shape, the paint did not even come off when the water with the goof off in it came streaming down the front of the machine. Miele came out, patted me on the back, told me it was ok, that no one is perfect and wished me well. I am glad that I choose what I did.

Hoovermatic:

It's really not worth responding to!

Conspiracy theories around laundry detergents ... oh dear!

The laundry geek market's not THAT profitable!

hoovermatic

Please do not speak to Nick like that. We have had enough with David having goes at Jon.

It is just not acceptable, and it is quite childish. This is a forum for those with an interest in washers, not a playground for children to have fights in.

Mind you… If you want to have childish fights here, I’m all ready and willing to deal with you….

Carl

*trembles in fear*

Carl - you might want to check back through the thread and see who it was that started the accussing and insults, then sort out your facts before you respond in such a fashion

No Manners

Oh do stop it, hoovermatic, please.

I have neither the time nor energy for this sort of nonsense. We are dealing with washing machines and energy efficiency here, not life or death.

I always do my best to check the facts before saying or writing anything.

Manners, I see, are missing again. I must be from a bygone age where matters mattered….

Once again you have got the wrong end of the stick. I started this thread about 'Energy Wasting' and merely posed the question you see at the top and after many positive and interesting comments went on to air my views on the subject of energy waste and recycling etc. I did not ask to be accused of the things that I was subsequently accused of by Nick and now you and if you think that I am not going to defend myself then you are sadly mistaken. You obviously STILL haven't read this thread properly.

Carl dont worry Buddy I would just not bother with this thread any more.

Any abuse thrown at me IS laughed off. Im not the child here. I simply had the guts to say what 99% of the club were thinking.

HOOVERMATIC
You obviously did not read my post of which I rightly accuse you and it still does not alter the fact you Hoovermatic DO NOT contribute to threads of a normal nature or create threads that are of a positive manner.

Ive been through the site archives, not one thread have you made that has been to share your passion of laundry appliances or any matter for the fact.

You only seem to come to life over environmental issues to create problems.

You dissapear for months and only when the mess you create from the previous time has killed off you reappear to try and create more.

WHEN FOLK OF THIS FORUM WANT TO CHANGE THEIR LAUNDRY HABITS AND WISH TO TELL THE REST OF THE GROUP THEY WILL CREATE THEIR OWN THREAD.

IT IS NOT FOR YOU TO ASK HOW MANY IF US WILL DROP OUR WASH TEMPS TO REDRESS ANY PROBLEMS CONSIDERING YOUR VINDICTIVE NATURE DEMONSTRATED ELSEWHERE ON THIS WEBSITE. of which if you notice from the original post you made, the nature of comes across as being very demanding.

Any more replies to my obsevations will not be taken to heart by myself, and generally ignored. I dont take offence to name calling, or insults in any way.

Perhaps if Hoovermatic wishes to redeem themselves to me then they may consider sharing the experience of their Hotpoint TL's or participate in another non appliance related topic.

Until then I sadly will refuse to condider whoever they, you are as here of a genuine nature.

Good day to all.

Nick

Redeem myself to you? I don't think so. You have far too much time on your hands Nick and need to find something more constructive to do with yourself. Perhaps enrol at the local college in a junior debating society?

I am bored of you and your childish comments and until you can contribute in an adult fashion to a very important debate I suggest you keep quiet.

I tire of this constant stifling of a global problem (energy consumption and pollution) and will confine my comments to people who have something adult and constructive to say, which, I hasten to add is 99% of the people on this forum. It is only the likes of you who bring the level of debate down. Put the toys back in your pram and move along.........

I'd offer cake, but

my own experiences with some folks in the UK group lead me to fear it would end up in my face.
My paws and whiskers, what is with some folks here? When I count every single "flame" or nasty (and it takes a lot for me to call something "nasty") e-mail or slap-down I have ever got in this forum it came from the UK. No exceptions. No German, Dutch, Canadian, Brazilian, Italian, US-American...
There are so many nice folks from the UK, but a few of you really look for reasons to be upset.
Lighten up folks, puh-lease?
So, Matthew, I share your joy. Tell us all about it - and don't forget to take the shipping bolts off...I forgot those once and had to replace the customer's (stainless steel) tub.
I'd be especially curious to know how the spin is set-up.
Maybe in another thread...I don't really want to read this one again.
