Hi , A few people asked to see the washer in action. The pump is now repaired and all seems to be going well.
The wringer is a bit of a problem , the bottom roller is worn away quiet a lot but amazingly Parnall rollers fit it perfectly , in fact the wringers are very similar, on the english electric it clearly says made by ACME for EE, not so on the Parnall although they are almost identical.
Other wringer problem is that wringing backwards i.e out of the sink , the water tray still tilts back to the wash tub and not the sink.Any ideas anyone?
Thanks to all who gave me advice on mending the pump , as always your advice was invaluble.

Thank you for your kind offer. the impellor is perfect but it had worn away where it joins the drive shaft, it has now been fixed in place with a screw.

great vid Lance!

machine looks great.
a really nice collection of vintage machines and have never seen an English Electric wringer in action before.

Model 4005?

It's difficult to say but

Out of all of them including a countess which I no longer have , it has to be the Parnall.
It certainly seems to agitate faster and wring faster.
Also the wringer seems to get more water out than the others .
Unfortunately my Parnall dosnt have a heater and I do like to wash my chefs whites at near boiling point and I've found that for boiling the hoovermatic twin tub still gets to the boil faster than any other machine I have.
Al , you know where I am , fetch some mucky washing and try em out for yourself.

hi Mike, thanks to Al

who kindly gave me a dvd of lots and lots of "vintage Persil adverts" i nearly always use Persil hi foam , the power of advertising eh!
Plus i really do like the results.
I do have a full unopened 1970s box of Fairy snow , a few times ive been tempted to open it just because the smell reminds me of mothers house on wash day, shame its no longer made.
Thanks very much for the tips about the wringer water tray, i will have another look at it, under neath the bottom roller is a small metal clip with what looks to be a piece of hose atatched to it.
Does this control the water tray by any chance? if so mine is stuck in one position leaning back away from the wash tub , the water tray itself is very free but just wants to sit in the forward drain position.
Nice to see so many people have looked at the machine in action, it has had about 90 hits so far.
Cheers
Lance

water tray

hi Lance not sure if this is any use to you but on the hptpoint empress wringer the bottom roller has a plastic collar with two flanges these tip the tray in the right direction depending on which way the wringer is running will post aphoto when i have charged the camera Anthony

wringer

Hi Anthony ,
Thanks for your kind offer of a photo of the empress wringer.
I am lucky enough to have an empress and the way that wringer works is different to the EE.
I have enjoyed watching your restoration, you are making a grand job of it.
All my washers are in the garage except the Empress and my Servis twin tub , those are in my opinion the finest looking machines so they are on display in the kitchen.
I and a lot of other memebers on here look forward to seeing your work completed.
Thanks again
Lance
