Escapement rebuild

I took the escapement apart on my l110 westy slant front. I want to make sure I put it back together correctly. It was slathered in hardened grease so it needed a cleaning. I used alcohol and a toothbrush. I decided to use a high quality clock oil vs grease upon re-assembly since it looks more like a clock mechanism to me.

Is there supposed to be a preload on the gear with the spring? I wasn't sure and I can't remember if it had tension on it when I took it apart. Also the westinghouse service manual has this long winded procedure for mounting it back to the timer and it doesnt make much sense to me. Is this really necessary? I guess I'm just not too familiar with how it's supposed to work.

I figured it out

After basically playing with this on the bench I think I figured it all out. The directions in the manual are pretty confusing until you start playing with it.turns out the alignment is critical. I must have taken it apart and put it together 10 times by now. I rigged up a lamp cord so I could power it up. I think the grease they used on these was on purpose. They wanted to introduce some extra drag so i will replace the grease with "super lube" my favorite synthetic grease. If there is any interest I will post some photos of final assembly. Maybe it will help someone in the future.
