Speaking from experience, I can say that when we collectors of appliances get to the point when we have to clear out our "junk", there is always the scrap metal value of the stuff. Or eBay. That takes away some of the discomfort(?) of having useful things go to waste.

I definitely agree about the effects of living through the Depression and wars. We are only one or two generations away from that period.

Jealous...but congratulations!

That's all there is to it! I'm glad you saved this stuff from being carted off to Goodwill (where it'll just get tossed around and damaged) or to the dump, for that matter. Most people don't have a passion for such ordinary household items like we do. Those Downy bottles and that box of Oxydol--oh, how that brings back so many memories!

Congrats Greg! Beautiful haul. That Toastmaster stainless steel electric skillet is a gem. I have one in the box in cherry condition also and plan to keep it that way until it goes to the museum.

Do you ever find that old fabric softener goes rancid or is that a peculiarity of the new formulas? I don't mean separation, but a rancidity that leaves a horrible odor in the clothes.

One of my favorite aunts used Oxydol in both her Maytag Master and in her 57 Highlander. The fragrance always brings her to mind. A friend introduced me to Final Touch. I loved the original fragrance. He always used it in his LK combo until his towels became waterproof.
