Speaking of Cold Water
Washing... Just nabbed a box of "Cold Power" detergent. Think will open it soon and give it a try.
Growing up we had a HUGE boxe of the stuff, the sort one would see in a commercial laundry right beside Mother Dear's Whirlpool washing machine. When the box was empty (and that took some doing, as the contents decreased, one had to reach lower and lower to get at what remained), Big Daddy would fetch another, and my brothers made "forts" or found other ways to play with the box.
IIRC, cold water washing really was promoted during the 1970's due to the energy crisis. However try as Lever Bros, Colgate Palmolive, and others tried, housewives simply wouldn't abandon hot or warm water washing in great enough numbers.

Won't even try to use it in the Miele then, though box does say Cold Power can be used in all types of washing machines. Even has dosage for front loaders,though says suds should reach "halfway up the window", something my Miele would object to most strongly.

Here are the sale finds from a couple of weeks ago - yes, that is an entire unopened case of Borateem. It's the same box as in the ad with the spinning Philco washer that I loved so much as a kid. The Miracle White bleach is one I've never found before. I think I have enough powdered oxygen bleach for a while...
This is also the most ACT detergent I've seen in captivity, usually all I see are unopened samples that came in the mail - as is one of these boxes. I remember getting our samples years ago and as Laundress said, our GE Filter-Flo "objected most strongly" to the suds.

More finds from that same week - the answering machine telephone was made for "Bell". There is no access to the recording tapes (or ?) and there is a small window on the phone that ticks off the minutes used.
And another pretty vacuum with it's original box. This one is here on the "catch and release" plan, there is no room for it to stay.

I remember Miracle White as a detergent rather than a oxygen bleach. It gave me the worst rash I have ever had in my life.

Gosh Laundress! I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. I got Mom to buy GIANT boxes from the restaurant I worked at once I discovered I loved the stuff. (The restaurant washed all the kitchen linens and tablecloths in a large capacity Kenmore with the Penta Vane. The owner's wife insisted on cold water for the tablecloths which were red because she didn't want them to fade. They saw YEARS of heavy use and daily washing in Cold Power). The box of Cold Power at home sat near our BOL Kenmore with the gold straight vane agitator. I went through several of those boxes (must have been 50 pounds?)...but it took me years!
Strange...I don't remember it being sudsy at all. It rinsed really clean. Great old memories.

We had that exact answering machine when I was a wee little boy. I think it was made by PhoneMate for BellSouth. There were two versions of the innards with this machine. One was a reel to reel. I tend to think that is what your has since it has the minute counter. The other version was a loop tape. It was the same principle as an 8-track. The outgoing message was just a loop of about 30 seconds.
These were often rented. The buy out price was a crazy price! Phonemate had there own version that you could buy as just a machine, or machine & phone combo.
Are you going to use it? They are fun and work quite well.
