Can anyone tell me why, when my washer starts drain, it goes in to a fast spin with the tub full of water.this only happens in the delicate cycle and only in the first drain after the wash cycle ends. I think it might me a timer problem? I am not to sure.and this happens when I have the water level switch set on high, not med or low. and another thing I can hear the clutch banging around, it stops when the water has drain and goes into a fast spin and then it stops and goes in to the slow spin. Direct drive washer sometimes start to neutral drain and then click into spin on their own. Drain periods are always at high speed, hence, the fast spin during a drain period. It can be a very random event, or can happen at every drain period. The only solution is what's called a "neutral drain kit". That involves opening up the tranny. Easier, but more expensive solution is a new tranny. Not a big job on a Whirlpool direct drive washer. Hope this helps!

BTW it's not a timer issue. The timer pauses after drain is normal.

And it's very common issue with these direct drive Whirlpool produced units. I had one of the first direct drive (DD) Lady Kenmores bought in October 1986. After a few years, the machine started doing exactly what yours is donig. And it would do it during the first spiin (after wash) and sometimes even the on the spin after the rinse. It actually kinda bothered me too, but that was just me. So, I "solved" the problem by setting the machine on final spin (normal spin speed) and let it run through that before I started laundry. 9 times out of 10, it then did what it was designed to do, not spin during the first drain. also be aware, if you use your fabric softener dispenser, the unintended spin during drain creates havoc because the softner is released from the dispenser when the machine pauses after the drain (and spinning) and begins the intended spin phase.

Appnut, Thank's for your help also, I will try that,the final spin, then the clothes. I just changed the agitator from a straight vane to a Extra Roll type(Dual Action),better turn over of the clothes.My Estate will be 8 years old in April.bought in 1999.Extra large capacity,24'' wide,it's been a very good machine. I kind of wish, it was a super capacity.Thank's Bob.
