Vacuum motor wattage was not the first thing that came to my mind when I learned of the Brexit vote. Of far greater concern right now is which direction our country will be heading in over the course of the next few years, and the implications it may have for future generations.
That said, my previous vacs were a 2200 watt Miele, and a 2100 watt Sebo. In both cases, suction power was downright excessive, to the point where the floor head was bloody hard work to move over the carpet. Counterproductive. They also ran hot enough to act as a room heater. Turning the power down to the halfway point solved both issues to a degree, which sort of begs the question, why have such an overpowered motor to begin with unless it's just a case of mine-is-bigger-than-yours?
Current machine is a Sebo with 700 watts. Cleans just as well, runs a lot quieter, and doesn't pump out exhaust air that's hot enough to rival a fan heater. From a practical point of use perspective, I can't see what's not to like. Not particularly bothered about the energy usage to be honest, but if there is a small saving to be had there, I'll just consider it an added bonus.
Some folk just like to complain about change for the sake of complaining. I catch myself doing it too sometimes, particularly as I get older, but sometimes you've got to pick your battles. If someone wants to get their panties in a wad over how many watts their vac is pulling, I'm thrilled for them. The rest of us would
