Now that the EU Wattage National Socialists will no longer have sway over Britain, how many of our cousins across the pond are looking for a more powerful vacuum cleaner right now?

Roger,

do you know what the monarchy of Britain's own energy consumption standard per KW hour is?
Listen for the Queen's next address, when she says to each and every topic "My government will".
As for national socialists, I define all collectively generated tax funds as socialistic.
Last I knew, our illustrious elite politico from both aisles each take how much paid time off between sessions of congress?
Surely you guest?
Nothing can ever be free. Someone must always pay. How much to pay is another question.
Give and take. Circle of Life. Take more than you give, and it upsets the scales of balance. Wether it is a company, an employee, or a government.
Whenever anyone files bankrupt, the rest of us pay. No way around it.

Haha,..

Nothing will be that instant, the amount of "tosh" in the news at the moment is immense - e.g London want to leave the UK as they voted remain lol.

I personally wanted remain too, and don't mind saying I'm deeply upset that we didn't. Of course, that is Democracy though, and have to accept the outcome.

It just is an uncertain time, Scotland's First Minister said there is definitely another Scottish Independence referendum on the table as Scotland too wanted to remain as did Northern Ireland.

So we will see what all this brings, but admit, I'm worried. Whether rightly or wrongly.

Also..

Can I ask.

I have just purchased an iron, and in the course of the research, come across more of US details (it's a Rowenta, which seems more prevalent in the US that UK).

I'd learnt that Irons in the US are limited to 1800W by law - is this accurate?

Anyway, that aside. The Irons here go as high as 3000+W, the one I have just bought is 3100W.

Just seems odd that we have irons that go that high when the EU made such a stink about vacuums.

Thanks

Suppose that does make sense, I also believe the fact that we are not allowed plugs in bathrooms is because we run on 240v.

Ridiculous and STUPID regs. The amount of time a vacuum cleaner is used by the average person the energy use is tiny. The average person will use more energy in their TV than the vacuum. For most folks the vacuum is used for about 2hrs per week at most.Spit in the bucket! This is what you get when go'vt goes amuck!VOTE THE BUMS OUT!!!!

1. Rather unsensitive to use the word N... S... here, especially to people who lost family due to such regime.

2. Voting because the power usage of vacuums is regulated comes across as very short sighted.

3. I have such a vacuum, "only" 1000 Watts, but it's the best one I ever had, even better than the Miele I had before. The design has changed, not only the power usage. Manufacturers had to think about how they could make the best of the new rules and with my Electrolux it turned out better than one ever could have expected. I went to a special vacuum dealer who was exstatic about this vacuum and he was right. Less noise and better suction. The power usage didn't bother me, but I got the best vacuum there was in the end.

4. With the limited power usage thanks to 110V and max ampere the USA could benefit from such design too. Better suction within the limits of the 110V system.

Here's a novel idea

Try the free market economy where consumers choose based on their needs vs cost. Not what some unelected faceless bureaucrat "thinks" is best for everyone.

it's been done before and as I recall, works pretty well.

Foraloysius, according to the polls, many of your countrymen disagree with you about the EU. And doesn’t it bother you that a regime dominated by Germans is trying to dictate to the people of Europe how to govern themselves?

"Many of your countrymen disagree with you about the EU"

That's actually 30 percent of the people who live in the Netherlands. Too many people realize we have one of the most open economies in the world and function as the port of Europe.

"And doesn’t it bother you that a regime dominated by Germans is trying to dictate to the people of Europe how to govern themselves?"

What regime? The EU? There are actually 28, soon 27 countries in the EU. The Germans are a minority albeit one of the bigger ones.

All I know

is I have more choices for products and services at better cost than anyplace else.

Well that is, until the current administration took office but that is another topic altogether....................:)

I doubt that. To stick with our favorite appliance, washing machines, it's easy to make a comparison between two big stores. Mediamarkt in Germany sells 305 frontloaders, 32 toploaders, 8 built-in washing machines and 45 compact models. Prices between 199 euros and 3109 euros ($220.- and $3440.-)

Sears USA sells 75 frontloaders, 65 toploaders, 52 twin load washers and 17 portable models. Prices between $299.- and $2243.- for a single washing machine.

I don't know about the USA but overhere every washing machine gets a 2 years warranty.

Political topics belong in the Dirty Laundry Forum.

I doubt it too

All too often we read from Americans moaning on here about the quality of appliances. lack of choice, government interference...etc..etc....

Just because you have a bill of rights, don't think for a minute that you have more choice than other countries or more freedom or less intereference.

My observations over the past years would suggest that's simply not true at all.

Vacuum motor wattage was not the first thing that came to my mind when I learned of the Brexit vote. Of far greater concern right now is which direction our country will be heading in over the course of the next few years, and the implications it may have for future generations.

That said, my previous vacs were a 2200 watt Miele, and a 2100 watt Sebo. In both cases, suction power was downright excessive, to the point where the floor head was bloody hard work to move over the carpet. Counterproductive. They also ran hot enough to act as a room heater. Turning the power down to the halfway point solved both issues to a degree, which sort of begs the question, why have such an overpowered motor to begin with unless it's just a case of mine-is-bigger-than-yours?

Current machine is a Sebo with 700 watts. Cleans just as well, runs a lot quieter, and doesn't pump out exhaust air that's hot enough to rival a fan heater. From a practical point of use perspective, I can't see what's not to like. Not particularly bothered about the energy usage to be honest, but if there is a small saving to be had there, I'll just consider it an added bonus.

Some folk just like to complain about change for the sake of complaining. I catch myself doing it too sometimes, particularly as I get older, but sometimes you've got to pick your battles. If someone wants to get their panties in a wad over how many watts their vac is pulling, I'm thrilled for them. The rest of us would
