heard on the news today that whirlpool has eliminated one
shift at the Evansville refrigerator plant and the plant
will close completely in june.Production will then shift to
mexico.
lots of jobs will be lost/manufacturing base further degraded
this recession will never end if we continue to export all
our jobs!

this recession will never end if we continue to export all

And then the workers that stopped at the 7/11 each morning and bought coffee and gas are not there now so the 7 /11 closes and lays off more and so on and so on The "ripple" effect of even a small place closing is staggering.

very true

the "ripple"effect is especially high with a manufacturing
job-stated job loss is is only a part of the actual job loss
as suppliers lose work and food services loose their patrons
laid-off workers decide not to buy new products,etc.etc.
A refrigerator is not just a refrigerator-it is sheet steel,
molded plastic,copper tubing,wiring,insulation,a compressor,
a fan motor or two, paint, etc. not to mention activities
related to the materials that go into the parts mentioned.

Is Frigidaire still manufactured in USA??

I have a Frigidaire refrigerator from 2004 and a washer & dryer from 2006. All of them have labels that say "Electrolux Home Products, Augusta, GA". There is a date of manufacture on the label, but no PLACE of manufacture. Nothing says "made in Augusta, GA", simply that Electrolux Home Products' office is in Augusta, GA.

I have seen people post here that Frigidaire laundry products are indeed made in USA and at the same plant they also make commercial laundry machines (some major commercial laundry brand).

Sudsmaster so very true about the ripple. I wish one of the power reporters would cover it, start with something simple like, the median price of a home in that zipcode, then recheck that amount in 1 yr. I don't know about Electrolux they now make Wascomat, but were the home appliance are made I have no idea. The stickers used to be more truthful in the 70's, Assembled in the USA with parts from ... ... :-( alr2903
