I just purchased a set of dvd's on e-bay and recently received them. They were about an old cartoon which was around when I was a young fella about a superhero named "Prince Planet", and they bought back a lot of old memories for me, and started me thinking, what were everyone else's favourite cartoons if any, mine were Prince Planet of course and also Dick Dastardly and Muttley and the Herculoids, Superman, and Dick Tracy.
hhmmmmm! I think perhaps I need a bit of therapy.
Cheers everyone.
Steve.

Well, I suppose my fond memories of cartoons will probably be different than most on this board, but as much as I did enjoy a lot of the Hanna-Barbera cartoons, especially Scooby-Doo, some of my favorite cartoons were Tiny Toons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Thundercats and My Little Ponies.

I also enjoyed the cartoons that the Disney channel would air. I'm not sure if they really do that anymore, all I ever see are tv shows/sitcoms on the Disney channel.

I loved Prince Planet!

I know that was big in Australia too, as I was reading about it. I have on tape the Japanese version of it too (terrible copy but interesting). When I was a kid they would play every episode in chronological order. But I ALWAYS missed the very first one and the very last one until I got some tapes off EBAY. Man did that bring back memories. I also loved, as a kid, Marine Boy, which had an interesting quality.

Felix the Cat, the 1958 version of it. There is a surreal, space age 50s, suburban mid century modern undercurrent to this series that is just unbelievable. I mean, geez, the production company was "TRANS-LUX"!!!!! How about the very beginning of the theme song with that xylophone (or whatever it is). Master Cylinder. The Professor. Poindexter. The look and sound of it which was similar to the look and sound of some of the late 50s drive-in cartoons (in a way). Note: Not to be confused with that abomination "Felix the Cat's Twisted Tails" that came out in the 90s, which was some sort of perverted, disgusting take on the whole thing. Don't say I didn't warn you if you come across one of these.

Atom Ant, the Jetsons. The Flintstones was among the first TV images I remember (along with Winchell, The Patty Duke Show and I Love Lucy, reruns of course). We had for the longest time the original Welch's Flintstones grape jelly jars that were glasses after the jelly was finished.

Not to forget Astroboy!!!

..or when Bugs is doing Taz' hair and says:
You meet the most INTERESTING monsters....

And Boris and Natasha, who is "MUCH too important to be captured."

.....doing HAIR LOL LOL LOL.
BTW==> Bugs has a stereotypical Brooklyn/ Bronx (NYC)accent.

The pinnacle of funny

1. Ren & Stimpy (produced by Jon K.)
2. Beavis and Butthead (before MTV toned them down)
3. Road Runner
4. Tom & Jerry before the 70s (with that original black woman's voice, not the new overdubbed one)
5. All the Tex Avery toons (especially Magical Maestro)
6. Looney Tunes before the 60s as well.
7. Animaniacs
8. Bullwinkle & Rocky

I have most of this on DVD.

I love the Bugs episode with the big orange monster.

I love the part where he tells the monster to "look out there, in the audience." And the monster goes, "PEOPLE! AAARRRRGGHHH!!!!!" and runs through the walls.

Also my fave Road Runner is the one where Coyote makes this huge robot that makes all these weird mechanical noises.

Road Runner and Tom and Jerry are cartoons that have very little dialogue. And they're among the funniest of the old cartoons. Interesting how violence and loud sound effects can make me laugh more than verbal humor. Part of my personality I guess. RR is full of mechanical noises like trucks, trains, bombs, rocks falling, the 'beep-beep'. T&J is mostly loud crashes, thwacks, smacks, hits, and loud screams (by Tom of Course), and maybe there's dialogue if the 'black lady' is present.

"Monsters are such innnnnnteresting people! I was telling my girlfriend just the other day, monsters lead such innnnteresting lives. The places you must go, the things you must see, myyyyyyy stars..."

The monster's name was Gossamer.

My faves: Old WB cartoons--Bugs, Daffy, Taz, Porky...

Milton the Monster

Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy (my dad and I used to do their schtick all the time)

Flintstones

Jetsons

Animaniacs

Taz-Mania

Tennessee Tuxedo

King Leonardo (remember Biggie Rat and Itchie Brother?)

Ah, too many to list 'em all...

veg

Looney for Cartoon-ies!

It's gotta be Tom and Jerry! I just love slapstick. Also, anything by Chuck Jones. You could count on him to be bizarre and oddly funny! What can I say...I'm an oddball too! ;-)

Gotta be

Rocky and Bullwinkle! The puns! Those metal-munching mice!

Mr. Peabody, and his boy, Sherman.

then, the rest of them--

The Flintstones/Jetsons.

I always loved Yogi and Boo-Boo, and wanted to do things to Ranger Smith!

For some reason, Astroboy always made me sad.

As for more modern animation, DARIA! (I want to rock Mr. Morgendorffer's world.)
Change a few details, and daria's high school experience and mine looked a lot alike.

I liked Doug. I've always wondered what Patty Mayonnaise's mother's maiden name was, Ketchup?

Who can forget Rugrats? "And what might be your name, little girl?" "It might be Angelica."

Lawrence/Maytagbear

Here's mine

1. Top Cat
2. Cool Cat(remember that one?)
3. Astro Boy
4. The Beatles cartoons
5. Space Ghost
6. Stop the Pidgeon(with Dick Dastardly and Muttley)
7. Old Popeye
8. Little Audrey
9. Casper
10.Mary Tyler Moore as the Hotpoint Imp (ah just kidding, not a cartoon)

Tennessee Tuxedo,and friends like Commander McBragg,Savoir Faire,etc

Anything by Tex Avery

Anything by Hanna Barbera when they were at MGM

The Warner Bros. cartoon that featured cartoon Warner Bros. and hollywood stars, like Bogart, and Bacall,Gable, etc,or Bugs at the Oscars.

Forgot these......

Kenny and Jason:

Forgot all about Tex Avery! What a card! Magical Maestro was priceless! Love Droopy Dog too!

Love the Tex Avery classics and '70s Hanna-Barbera stuff (Hong Kong Phooey and Captain Caveman). The Simpsons still have their moments, and I watch Family Guy for Stewie ("You know, Lois, this could've passed as banana pudding, but without Nilla Wafers it's just another one of your wretched culinary abortions." CRASH! "CLEAN IT UP!")

HUGS TO VENUS!!!!!!!!!

You r0x0r!

I like Magical Maestro BEFORE the edits. The "chinese" and the "black" parts are GONE! Just like Mammy in T&J. But I guess they were offensive enough to have them taken out. But Magical Maestro made fun of Native Americans, Hawiians, Mexicans, etc. T&J had lots of slapping and sticks to go around. It won't go a minute before Tom gets whacked and screams in agony.

What is it about us Venus? Do we secretly enjoy seeing Tom get tortured for doing what comes natural? Trying to catch a mouse?

One of my favorite Tex Avery toons was The Car Of Tomorrow. It had a lever on the steering wheel that you pulled and it squeezed the front seat bringing your girl close to you. I want one of those!
