Yesterday, my girlfriend and I roadtripped a few hours away and ended up at her aunts house. Upon arrival, I had to relieve myself pretty badly...lol. The bathroom I used downstairs also contains a front-load washer and dryer. They are a Frigidaire matching set. After going to the bathroom I wanted to check them out, I'm just that way...hehe. The dryer: boring! Washer was interesting though. It had what seemed to be a timer knob. "Push to Turn" "Pull to Start" method. No idea on the age, I would guess maybe 5 or 6 years old. What alarmed me though was that the door on the washer was shut. Now, she has a beachfront house on Lake Erie, and the humidity is off the charts. I opened the door and upon inspection of the gasket, it was completely covered in mold and very slimy! YUCK! I told her what I had seen and she said: "Oh, I've been meaning to clean that for sometime now..." WHAT A TWIT! I gave her advice to leave the door open and wipe it out when done with laundry for the day! Of course I was then questioned to why I was inspecting her washer..lol. I just said that they interest me and I was comparing it to mine.

Welcome to the club. You could just tell her that you like engineering. You know cars, machines, how things work.

I remember when I was a kid whenever I would get around a washer in operation, I was quickly shooed away. I wanted to watch it work to see how it works.

Just be more careful next time!

F L WASHER CARE

You never need to wipe the gasket of a front load washer if you use it properly. 1 use hot water only for washing 2 use chlorine bleach in it several times per month 3 leave door open 4 use plenty of detergent { powered may be better for most situations ] 5 never use the warm rinse setting on a FL washer it accelerates mold growth. These 5 steps will also extend the life of the main seal and bearings, it will also keep the spider clean and it won't corrode and break. Bones you will also have clean great smelling clothing.
