Regarding Post #5 about Touchpads being a "deal breaker&
There are touchpads and there are touchpads. The Kenmore (Whirlpool built) that I have had for 30 trouble-free years was built right - touchpads still look and work like new and the control panels have built in surge suppression. I've never had them turn on or off by themselves - never had them malfunction in any way.
Considering the vibration, moisture and heat involved in a washer/dryer it is amazing that they have held up so well over 30 years of use.
I also have a 1994 Maytag dishwasher with touchpads and same thing - no issues ever with them - they still look and work like new - never any issues with them.
SO - just remember - not all touchpad control panels are created equal!
There are well-engineered touchpad control panels and low-budget, poorly engineered touch panels.
