Help Support :

a request ( actually, more like shameless begging):

If you have ANY literature on GE washers, dryers and/or dishwashers from <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="font-size: xx-large; color: #ff6600;">1960</span></span>  and/or from <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="font-size: xx-large; color: #3366ff;">1961</span></span> could you scan and post them? I've been looking for them for years.

...oh, aren't they pretty? (These are from 1957):

GE Pullout dishwasher

My folks 1960 Ohio ranch had a GE Kitchen, pink wall oven, stainless steel cooktop, and a pink dishwasher, matched the pink oven. The ad above, from 57, looks damn near exactly the same, one large dial at the upper right, and the sliding doorlock. My folks could barely change a light bulb, so when it had troubles in about 72, and my dad was the accountant for a condo builder, he just swapped it out for a "contractor grade" front loader POS. Had I only known I'd eventually find this hobby!

GE Princess "24"

Was the first diswasher my family owned. I'm pretty certain it was my Mom's present for Christmas 1957. It was in White to match the cabinets and other appliances. I still have the manual for it. It rusted and sprang a leak in the sump area in early '71, and was replaced by the KitchenAid KDI-16 (that now belongs to Rollermatic Pete).

Fantastic Whirlpools!

These were fantastic dishwashers. I remember many in homes in my neighborhood while I was growing up!

I would love to find a Mint NIB Whirlpool SVU-100.

It is also interesting to see the self cleaning filter is not all that off from the design of the Power Wash type.

I rented apartments that had the models lower than the SUV-100. I loved them! They cleaned so well!

John! How were they reliable wise?

Thanks for the scans David! They are awesome!

I wish I did!
My first brochure was this one....it started it all!!!!
I have about....Oh...I would say....hmmm.... maybe..... 1000 or so
My collection is of dishwashers mostly....I have some newer full line brochures.
When I was a Whirlpool/KitchenAid dealer, I would receive Amana, Estate, Roper, Maytag, JennAir, WP and KA...I would be swimming in all of that paper...I only kept the things that interested me. I kept the promo CD'S and some of the launch kits. What really interest me the most is the mid to latter 60's ...but I wouldn't turn down a good new brochure....if you can find one! As a child I would get up every Saturday morning and walk to East Broad Appliance...drooling over the line up of dishwashers. I would also look at all the other appliances too.
Lusting over the KA's, dreaming of when I could own a Superba! E B Appliance was a BIG Frigidaire dealer. Interesting thing was they would supply the mid and high schools with stoves and refrigerators and one portable DW at the end of the school year they would collect them and replace with new ones before the next school year began. People would line up waiting to buy them. Right next door was a Norge Town, with the ball sign...as I remember they would change the machines also...people would line up for that event. I remember my mother using the N Town when her GE filter-flo would break down.....before that, she had a Bendex FL with a Westy slant front dryer....I guess I kinda got off track! LOL!

Loving this!

David,

Thanks for trying and keep 'em coming. That last one made my morning coffee even more heavenly than usual. If you ever want a custom made graphic of any machine, just ask me and send a picture.

Jim thanks for reposting those Empress pictures. Tell the docent at that museum if he/she ever wants to fly me out there to clean up their dishwasher all they have to do is whistle. Consumer Reports was unusually unfair to this machine--they claimed it didn't have appreciably more than the standard dishwasher of the time (which leads me to believe that, like me own sainted Mum, the CU test technicians DIDN'T even bother to read the manual) and they also downgraded it for being cumbersome to open and close which leads me to believe that not only did those knuckleheads not read the manual, no one was even a little curious what the little red button marked "OPEN" did!

Hey David, "Greedy" here again. There was a fold-out brochure for GE Filter-Flo washers for 1970 ( literally, my FIRST brochure, that featured the first "HEAVY DUTY-18" models. It was about 10" by 4", closed and opened up, road map style. It had a purple front cover and the picture of a Male Model with a caption that read something like..."and he'll like the lint-free look". Ring a bell? Mine is either lost forever or somewhere in my basement hidden away in the bowels of a packing crate that I've yet to find. (and if I ever find them I'm going to give you a run for your money).
