Kind of clueless on this. If you had to buy new double door fridge, which brand and model would you choose today? Which is the longest lasting? Fewest repairs? Least amount of electronics? Anything else worth considering or that you like?

Well, GE or a Whirlpool product. Neighbors have been lucky so far for about 61/2 years with their French door Samsung. It has air vents in the sides though so needs to breathe. They modified the fridge niche in a remodel by getting a slightly narrower adjacent pantry cabinet. I saw a Kenmore Elite by LG I think on the curb last week.

Do you mean a side-by-side? If so, Consumer reports recommends a GE model.

If you want the ice and water through the door, which I like, it is better to have a side-by-side rather than a French door because the ice maker is in the freezer. You pay a lot less than a French door too.

I always hated S/S friges because it seems you can't put much (pizza) in the freezer, and they are a royal b*tch to work on the evaporator fan and defrost parts. It's entirely personal preference though, Mom got her first bottom freezer in about 1965 and that's what I've liked ever since. Her theory was that she gets in the freezer once a day and the fresh food 10 times, so why stoop over to get out the milk?
