Extended warranty amusement.

A kind friend sent me a great KitchenAid processor (KFP750, to be precise.) It has performed flawlessly, and I see no reason why it would fail anytime soon. The original warranty expired on April 28, 2010.

Suggested retail price (I've seen it for less) is 199.00

One year of the extended warranty is 83.29, including tax.

The three year plan is 212.39!

I wuz borned at night, but not last night; as a dear friend says.

My favorite is with my cell phone. When I bought it, the store had some special one year protection plan. I can't remember the details, but I studied the plan, and the phone warranty, and discovered two things:

-The warranty ran one year, too.
-As far as I could see, the protection plan covered NOTHING that wasn't covered by the warranty.

In short, the protection plan was the protection plan planner's big dream: a chance to make money, without any chance of spending any.
