Fab powdered laundry soap

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

We used to use Fab Rain Forest powder back when it was made by Colgate-Palmolive. It worked very well. It got the clothes very clean.
What I liked about it was that it was relatively low sudsing and rinsed out of your clothes very well.

It certainly wasn't as good as Foca or Roma. We like Foca so well, it's now our daily driver. The phosphated version is gone, so if you have some STTP it really cleans very dirty things like dog beds, curtains that haven't been washed in awhile, clothing dirty from automotive repairs, etc.

But I have heard that the new Fab is not as good. You might still find a box of it from C-P in the dollar stores.

I have a newer box of Fab Rain Forest that doesn't dissolve well at all, even when I add a water softener (20 Mule Team Borax). It leaves alot of undissolved granules in the holes of the lint filter in my Maytag A806S regardless of water temp. Our water is average in terms of hardness.

Yes, I like FAB, but the quality level is not what it was when manufactured by C-P.
I can't outclean FOCA or VIVA, but it is as good as Tide these days---which BTW is leaving some kind of powdered filler behind. I called and kvetched and I'm sure they promptly forgot about my story.

I'll stick to FOCA.

We have a WP TL washer. It has a very good agitation stroke and when used with warm water, we never had any dissolving issues with FAB. Maybe the Maytag is too lethargic in it's agitation.

We had a Maytag set before the WP set, the clothes really
didn't move well at all.

I have had quite a bit of the current FAB powder. I cannot compare it to the Mexican detergents as I have no experience there, but I was generally impressed with FAB's whitening ability and its low sudsing properties. I have never seen any problems with it dissolving, but I never wash in cold or even cool water unless I use ColdWater Tide. Charlotte city tap water is fairly soft, but not extremely so. My folks have a water softener on their well, so low sudsing detergents are important there, and FAB has been good in both applications.

My laundry is only occasionally really challenging (automotive work, working on washers, or working in the yard) but I have been happiest with Tide and Cheer. FAB is less than half the price of those products in general, so you probably at least partially get what you pay for, though I question if Tide is worth double the price.

One of our stores here puts FAB on BOGO, which it is right now. I would rather have Tide on sale, then use a coupon which the store doubles.

Phoenix Fab I have (Spring Magic scent) does not list enzymes in the ingredients. It is slow to dissolve, I can feel granules for a while in the Calypso's recirculation stream. The low-/non-sudsing property works nicely. Cleaning performance seems good-enough but I've not done a torture-test with it and usually don't use it on the heavier loads.
- cleaning agents (anionic and nonionic surfactants)
- water softeners (sodium carbonate)
- processing aid (sodium sulfate)
- anti-redeposition agent
- fabric brightener
- fragrance
- no phosphorus other than trace or incidental quantities

I have the Ocean Breeze scent. It was only $2.00 for a 27 load box. It looks like it is made by Phoenix brand, so it must be the newer stuff. I don't use cold on my washes either, and I mostly use hot, and warm when I have items that cause the water to turn colors. I do have sudsing issues with Roma brand in the Primus that I use. I'm guessing that my water may be on the soft side? Either way, the Fab may be good to be used for the prewash, as I will use the more expensive Plus (green box) for the main wash. Thanks everyone!

Now that Glenn mentions the slow to dissolve thing, I remember the same. Using my 1976 Kenmore with the recirculating filter, I did see granules going through there for a couple minutes before it all dissolved. It certainly didn't fail to dissolve, but I have never seen detergent going through a waterfall filter before. Funny that I had forgotten that!

I love FAB!

I've been using the Phoenix FAB for some time. It does a wonderful job. On cold water washes, there is a tiny bit of leftover detergent in the filter on my '60 Kenmore, but I have not found any residue on the clothes. Seems to be a great product at a wonderful price!
