This may seem like an unusual question, since most people on here seem to dislike strong scents, but in this case, i need to know, in y'all's opinion, which brand of fabric softener has the strongest, most obnoxiousm lingering scent on the market today? If I wash my bed clothes in it, I want to bowled over when I open my bedroom door.

For me, the obnoxious softener scents

are all of the Bounce scents!

Jaune- to answer your detergent question, yes, I use liquid detergents in the winter because water entering from the main is 40F (just about 4C).

Prefer liquids

Normally I use a Downy or Snuggle over sheets. I do keep some sheets but rip them in half most times. I find them too strong and a bit slippery feeling on the clothes.

I tried Suavitel after the Convention (Steve: OOOOOOOH THAT'S LOUD!) and liked the scent. Can't remember what it was exactly, but it wasn't the "loud" Morning Rain scent.

I'm using Snuggle right now, and while the scent isn't nearly as strong as Suavitel's, it's still pleasant. Depends on how much I use, really...

Quote: Distilled vinegar in the final rinse for towels and underwear.

Steve,
What does this do?. My understanding is that vinegar is a rinsing agent and that it would chemically neutralize "basic" (meaning alkaline) susbstances.

tks.

Well, when you use a half bottle of Gain softener in the last rinse like most of my customers do, all of Woodstock smells like Gain! Peeeee-yewwwwwww

I prefer Snuggle, but I'm partial to Method (blue lable scent) at home. I wish I could find Final Touch...

All softeners should be used at half strength. You get all the benefits of softness without overscenting and buildup in the fibers.

Beware vinegar in porcelain washer baskets. If there is any imperfection in the porcelain around the drain holes (where it is thinnest), the acidic solution can transfer the invisible rust from in the holes to the clothes, sometimes by the end of the spin, but especially if they are not removed immediately after the spin.

I use Downy Advanced. I'd have to go down there and look up what scent I use, I think it has a blue cap. Been using it since it came out and really like it. A little vinegar goes in as well with the whites/towels.

As was pointed out above, I never use nearly as much softener as is suggested, and get fine results.

Was at Wal-Mart Sunday. They had the "D" code (discontinued) on the shelf for Downy Advanced and just two bottles left, so I snatched both, $4.86 each. The replacement apparently is Downy with Febreeze.

Downy Balls

I have a few friends that use them. Funny thing though - most of them also have a dispenser on the agitator. Interesting how many people don't know what the little cup in the agitator does. The previous owner of the Maytag that is now in my garage did this as well didn't clean the lint filter.

Previous to the Maytag I had a GE Filter Flow from a friend that never used the filter. Didn't know what it was for, thought it was the lid to the mini basket!

Have friends here that refuse to use the agitator-mounted dispenser on their amana nor the flush=thru dispenser on the DD Kenmore in a rent house. Always the Downey Ball. Says the dispensers get grungy--I guess he doesn't wanna bother with cleaning.

I have a ball "specifically" for Downy Advanced. The instructions warn that it won't work for any other version of Downy .. or I assume with any other brand of softener, LOL. I always used the F&P's agitator-mounted dispenser, except once in a while I use the ball for a full load of jeans when I suspect/expect there'll be enough splashing to munge-up the softener dose with detergent water. However, a FULL cap of Suavitel (for the occasional super-size load of towels) is too much to fit in the F&P cup, so I may try the ball for that ... hopefully it won't self-destruct, tehehee.

One thing I don't like about the ball is that the rubber stopper gets in the way of filling it, coated with softener which then gets into the wash water unless it's rinsed before tossing in.
