Ok, it's not a disaster, but it's still a major bummer.....

My neighbor wanted to get himself a vintage range. I found him a perfectly nice Fabulous 400 electric stove that was on Craigslist for free, but the glass on the control panel broke when we were moving it!

Nobody around here happens to have an extra 400 glass panel piece they'd be willing to part with, do they? If not, but you want some parts for your 400, let me know and I will salvage them off this unit.

Dan, Did the glass fall and shatter or just get a crack? Years ago a customer of John's had a 70s Frigidaire Custom Imperial 40" range. Every time the oven was self-cleaned, the control panel would break exactly in the middle. The first time it happened, they were able to buy the part from Frigidaire, but the second time there was no part available, even at the awful price they paid for the second one. Since it was a clean crack, John removed the glass and used a piece of channeled gasket join the two pieces and absorb the stress so that now it cleans itself without without going to pieces. So, I was wondering if that is a possibility. If it's in several pieces, would it be possible to have the piece duplicated in Lucite or glass and take the old and the new one to an engraving place to have the writing and such on the glass duplicated? Using one of those tracing pens that copy from the original onto a second piece or photo composing or something, there should be a way to transfer what is on the old panel to a new one.
