Fastest Stackable Washer/Dryer

I have a rental house that is currently using a compact stacked combo washer/dryer (flse60rgs1). The dryer is 240V electric. It is way too slow. The house has a lot of laundry to do during a short period of time during guest turnovers.

I need to replace it with a stackable full size unit. What is the FASTEST, most POWERFUL washer/dryer for quickest and largest laundry cycles? I am willing to pay a plumber to add a gas line. There isn't enough space to put a side by side unit but I can squeeze in a full size stackable unit as wide as needed. I don't care about fancy features.

The answer is quite simple

If you are looking for a stacked commercial grade W/D Stack unit The Speed Queen Front load stack is the only way to go.  It is the same machine as their coin-op stack with better cycle controls and no coin meter. This is the only true commercial laundry stack available for home use.  Not to mention it is built to run 25,000 cycles in a commercial setting and will easily last 30 years.  Another nice thing is that it is made in the USA!

A dryer being small is not a reason for it to be slow.

I'd start with the simplest stuff first. No need for a new dryer if there's a simple problem easily and cheaply remedied.

- Are the filters clean? Check the operating manual; there may be more than one.
- Is the dryer vented? If so, clean the exhaust tubing and check inside dryer itself. You'd be amazed where lint will build up. If you can access the exhaust vent: the next time you run the dryer go outside and check the vent. There should be a healthy stream of hot, moist air coming out.

- If the dryer is an unvented condenser, it's even more likely there's lint built up somewhere it isn't supposed to. Is the water running into the dryer cold? The colder, the better. The warmer the water is, the longer it'll take for clothes to dry. That's just laws of physics.

That's what I have off the top of my head. I'm sure guys more knowledgeable than I will have some other ideas.

We stay in a 5 unit bed and breakfast owned by an engineer--he analyzed his choke points and realized it was trying to get by with a single washer and dryer. He invested in a second (normal consumer grade) and did far better without that choke point. Your case isn't identical, but it sounds like your choke point is your linen stock---presuming you've got a week between rentals, double your linen stock then do the laundry at your convenience through the week. I notice this when we're leaving our condo, there's a last-day backup of laundry...

Speed Queen Stack, Gas or Electric

The gas is a little faster, tase machines will do 22 pound loads in about an hour, that's more than 20 really large towels or about 30 regular bath towels.

 

I A compact 240 volt dryer has a much smaller heating element and will be slower, the Frigidaire stack you have has a 4,500 heater, the SQ has a 5,400 watt heater, also check if you are in a 208 volt area in which case the heater in the FD will only be putting out 3,375 watts. 

 

If you are in a 208 V area SQ sells a 208 element so you get full speed if you stay with an electric dryer.

 

The SQs will do almost twice as large a load as the FD stack will as well, we work on at least 6 of those FD stacks a week, they are crude but work ok in light use situations like one BR condos with no more that 2 people.
