Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I am new to this site and from what I can see u all have great collections I especially am a Kenmore fan from the late 70's and early 80's. The Kenmore with the 2 rows of buttons my favorite console.

Center dial Maytags and Whirlpool 70's and earlier, the slanted panels with the large plastic dials are my favorites. The 80's model with the times painted on are ok, but I like the big plastic dials the best.

Keymatic

That hoover keymatic is awesome! Are those things on the right side cards? What a cool, super 70s/80s feature! Like an old video game.

Reminds me of the allen organs back in the 70s and 80s with the punch cards for different sounds. :)

Keyplates

Washernoob
The "cards" you refer to are known as Keyplates, which are used to select the programme, and had been around in various formats since 1963. They are used to select define the programme selected via the slots that are visible on the plates above. Although it sounds very sophisticated its just a variation on the rotary mechanical dial. Chestermike has a picture which shows a wide variety of Keyplates in different colours for all the "flavours" of Keymatic.

Hoovermatic

I'm with Tim on this one, see immediately above. I have a Speed Queen wringer with a pump, an Easy Spindrier now working very well, does an excellent job, but my Hoover Twin Tub is the best all around machine. Fast cleaning, excellent rinsing and nearly dry extraction, small enough that you can customize loads for hot-soak-cold-wash-n-wear, etc, whatever your needs, also fast enough to race through a boatload of dirty tons. Whether it's the console we're talking or the machine's actual performance, he's right: Simple Functionality at its Finest!
