What are some of your favorite hotels or motels?

I have stayed at:
Ramada Inn
Best Western
Microtel
Holiday Inn

Out of those I liked Holiday Inn the best, because of their breakfast. The Microtel was awesome for the price, like $39 a night and was a pretty nice place for a no frills hotel.

I often have family staying at the Holiday Inn Express here in town and every experience has been great. It's a very nice place, we even had a party there a few years ago since family was staying there, and it was very accommodating. I really like the cinnamon rolls, they even gave my relatives extras in little boxes to bring to me.

The Ramada Inn was the worst experience. It was old, run down and the pool was dirty. I slipped on the boardwalk in the courtyard, and a weird person called our room one night wanting use to come outside. Not to say all Ramadas are like that. It was originally a Holiday Inn.

Also, I tend to prefer hotels with indoor corridors and not room doors that open to the outside, as they seem more upscale and modern. However, I guess the outside corridors are safer if there is a fire, and shorter distance to move luggage since you usually park right outside.

If it is still around

Jameson Inn, lots of them down south.

Country Inn and Suites by Carlson are nice too.

Motel 6...just joking, I really liked the Holiday inn in Boston, staff was friendly, rooms were clean and fresh smelling, bed sheets were white, crisp, and fresh smelling and towels were small but clean.Enjoyed staying there 4times..would go back again. Cheryl

I stayed at a Doubletree and an Embassy Suites hotel this summer and liked both of them. Both fairly upscale and the Embassy Suites actually had bellhop service. The only thing I didn't like was the numerous amounts of families with screaming children at the embassy suites. During breakfast and happy hour they came in and raided the breakfast/snackbar like wild animals. I was over that very quickly... The good part to all that was our suite on the 17th floor was away from all the screaming children.

I always stay in the Holiday Inn in Lumberton, North Carolina on my way to Florida.

Then the next stop is Microtel in Palm Coast. That's where stevet lives. (In Palm Coast that is).

I have been staying at these places the past 5-6 years.

Always Clean, Spotless, and friendly. I really don't want to chance anywhere else as these places are never a disappointment. Holiday Inn in Lumberton always remembers me when I check in on my way down and back.

Euro pillows

I wondered how many of these different brands listed have the Euro sized pillows?  I have to admit I liked them on our last trip.  They seem to be medium firmness and you can stack if you like a  firm pillow.   I think they are the new normal in hotel pillows.

I love, love, love The Millennium Hotel in Minneapolis. The regular rooms are wonderful, but the suites are to-die-for comfortable with great views and a nice window-seat eating area. Getting meals via room service is the crowning touch. Connected to the Minneapolis Skyway System so you can walk in comfort to get to places like Orchestra Hall or the Convention Center.

If the Hyatt is more your style, it's right across the street!

I prefer the Marriott hotels. The bedding is top notch and the pillows are fantastic. I liked the pillows so much I bought a pair from Marriott. Everything in their rooms has a tag that reads "This item is for sale, please contact the front desk". But they ship you a brand new item.

But I also like Embassy except for the reasons GusherB pointed out. It seems that Embassy Suites always have a ton of kids screaming and running around during the breakfast tables. I can't tell you how many times I've almost been knocked down by little kids.

I think Ramada Inn had its best days behind it. Holiday Inn as gotten so expensive for what you get.

when visiting larger cites ...

we like the Kimpton "chain" of smaller hotels, fun decor, quite plush, not too crazy expensive. When in the City we stay at Ink48, a converted former printing press building at 48th in Hell's Kitchen. Pet friendly too. Highly recommended.

When in rural New England we sometimes like staying in some of the older cabin courts popular in the 30s through 60s, or family owned hotels like the Middlebury Inn in VT. Cabin courts typically have not a lot of amenities and you have to check them out first, some are decrepit, but the nice ones are charming and usually come with a kitchenette, picnic table, and sometimes even a beach.

I used to stay at a Jamison Inn in Columbia, TN, and it was really nice. However, the last time I was in that area (8/13), it had been turned into a Baymont, and wasn't kept up nearly as well.

I've stayed in several Best Westerns over a period of many years, and been pleased with most.

I always stay in hotels owned by Hilton. Whether it be a DoubleTree, a Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, or the standard Hilton, the staff are always top flight, the rooms are always spotlessly clean, and with the number of Hilton honors points I've accumulated, I've been able to get some outstanding deals on very nice rooms.

We don't often stay in hotels, but I've always been happy with Holiday Inn, Best Western was pretty good the last time we stayed there. Last winter we stayed at a Quality Inn in PA, and it was clean but kind of dumpy. Bedding and towels were spotless and fresh, but cheap quality. The room was clean but kind of worn looking and way outdated. Pretty expensive for what it was. I doubt we will be staying there anytime soon. We don't travel much, and when we do it's usually fairly short distances, point A to point B type of thing, so we stay with friends or family. Or camping.

Granted these are pretty "high end", but....

My favorites would have to be......... The Mandarin Oriental for a "hotel" and the Westin Kaanapali (on Maui) for a "resort"!

I've been fortunate enough to stay at Mandarin locations in San Francisco (before it closed), Miami and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.   Beautiful properties, wonderful service and very, VERY nice rooms (and details).

Photos 1 & 2 Mandarin - Kaula Lumpur.

Photos 3, 4, 5 Mandarin - Miami.

Photos 6 - 9 Westin Ka'anapali (Maui)

I had been very fortunate, due to my ex-bro-in-laws connections, our stays in these locations were either severely discounted or comped entirely.

My next door neighbor is the GM of the 4 Points by Sheraton at BIA. It is part of the Starwoods family that has very strict standards. Every one of the Starwoods places I have stayed at has always been top notch plus she will make the reservation for me and then I get a nice discount. [this post was last edited: 9/2/2015-15:51]
