I don't think the smalls get enough exposure around here (other than pressure cookers, of course), so I thought I'd whip up a little action for 'em.

So what's your favorite small?

Mine's gotta be the Crock Pot. Dunno how I ever got along without one. I guess it's the antithesis of the pressure cooker, but at least there's no way I can explode it!

Second on the list is the electric knife. For years, I thought it was the stupidest idea around, now I wouldn't be without one.

Don't use the blender or mixer much, and I haven't used an electric can opener in years (though I'm keeping an eye on a vintage one for my kitchen.) I also don't use the food processor very often but when I do, it's worth its weight in caviar.

So how's about it, ladies and germs? What's yer favorite? As they say in Chicago--vote early and often!

Gosh, that's like trying to pick a favorite child. . .

My Melitta Fast Brew coffee maker gets up early every morning to have my coffee hot and ready.

Our slow cookers are some of the hardest-working small appliances in our kitchen. As I write this, I'm at work but my Crock-Pot is simmering a batch of my own recipe "Lazy White Boy's Red Beans and Rice".

When I get home, the Oster rice cooker will finish the job by simmering up some chicken flavored rice.

But probably the most special is a Christmas gift from my wife, a Waring PRO Belgian Waffle Maker. We use it at least once every week, and I'll even use it to make cornbread to go along with dinner.
 
Taster's Choice :)

That's easy!! The Sunbeam C50 is my absolute favourite small appliance. There's nothing like hearing the volcanic gurgling and smelling the wonderful aroma of the freshly brewing coffee that it makes. I swear, you could put dirt in there and it would come out great (after all, it WAS fresh ground this morning ;-) ). You can take every single small appliance that I own (including the curling iron), but don't take away my coffee or coffeemaker!
 
My favorite is my sears toaster oven that i have had for about 4 yrs. now.I like baked foods all year round.The summer is too hot to use the full size oven,so this comes in real handy without heating up the whole kitchen.
 
Ask me tomorrow and you get another vote! But at the moment my Philips blender is my favourite. I bought it second hand (it was just on the market and it was only used three times). It has a 550 Watts motor. I know it's not a Vitamix, K-tech or other expensive blender, but it does a pretty good job of making smoothies and yoghurt blends without lumps!
 
Mine would have to be my Vita-Mix-even have a small collection of them.The Philips blender looks like an interesting machine-I don't see them here in NC or US.I also have a couple of Blendtecs.Enjoy them as well.
 
The Toast-A-Lator sounds like an interesting machine-would like to see one work! I have an old GE toaster my mom gave me-still have it-but use a Toaster Oven instead.The Toaster oven allows you to toast the bread with the butter on it-a work collegue suggested it-tried his idea and it is so good!You have to clean the crumb pan more often though because the butter sometimes drips into it.I also even add some cinnamin to the toast.
 
Toast A Lator

My great grandmother had one of those.It was here and I used it for a couple years after moving into this house. My aunt still has it. It is fun to use,but not practical for everyday. 1) You have to run the toaster a while first to warm it up. 2) It takes forever to make two pieces of toast,as you have to wait until the first piece is halfway through before adding the second piece. 3) You get crumbs all over the countertop when it "dumps" the toast out the end. 4)All the toast and your breakfast is cold by the time the toast is done.

well.... gotta love grandmas 1941 Sunbeam Mixmaster model 7-1

The only Mixmaster ever made with a cast iron housing,and a sheet metal shell as the outside cover. Gotta save that aluminum for the war effort ya know!! Note the extra wide governor housing,and the art deco bands that extend on one side of the motor brush cap only.(this model only) This baby is very HEAVY.
 
Oh yes-also love those old Sunbeam Mixmasters-My mom had one-loved licking the beaters as she made those tasty treats!The cast iron one sounds great-no worry of it creeping across the counter while kneading bread dough.Would love to have an old Mixmaster-the new one just doesn't cut it for me!No attachment PTO ports on the new one.(Heritage model)

I have SO many small appliances, it's hard to say! Probably depends on how much and what kind of cooking one does. For right now, I'd have to say it's my little Hamilton Beach food processor that I keep on the counter all the time. Makes it so easy to chop, slice, or shred onions, bell peppers, zucchini or carrots, or blend together tofu with other ingredients on a moments notice that isn't enough to warrant bringing out the big HB processor.

Sanyo rice cooker gets a lot of use, it's nice to be able to set it up and walk away, knowing it won't burn or boil over and will keep warm after done. Started using my J C Penney(Sunbeam clone) Deep Fryer/Slow Cooker more often now, and, of course, the pressure cooker is coming into it's own.

My BUNN coffee maker is used EVERY day at least twice. It's over 10 years old and still makes a perfect cup of coffee. It has the hot water tank in the back so it's always ready. You pour the water in the top and coffee is brewing before you finish putting in the water.

My food processor was the second most used small appliance in my kitchen, but I have a new up and comer that might just slip into second place. It's one of those new Cuisinart Griddler's. I have used it every day since I've had it. I've been grilling pork chops, burgers, chicken breasts, grilled cheese sandwiches. It does an awful lot and what I like best is how easy it cleans up. The grates pop out and right into the dishwasher.

Coffeemakers - any vacuum coffee pot, My Bodum Santos, Silex glass percolators

Mixers - Sunbeam Mixmaster, Kitchenaid

Toasters - Sunbeam Toastmast (I think that's what it's called), the one that automatically lowers the bread with a motor and then raises it back up.

Blenders - Waring, the original chrome/glass ones from the 50s

Rotisseries - do they count? I want one of the GE machines from the 50s. I own a Ronco Showtime rotisserie and it's an excellent cooker. Hamilton-Beach has a convection/toaster/rotisserie oven for under $100 and it's pretty swell.
 
Some here know that I have a collection of mixmasters and some of their attachments that I really enjoy. Also have some percolators, Coffeemasters and other small appliances. I use a Farberware percolator for everyday, but my favorite percolator is the Proctor Silex lighted glass kind.

I sometimes use one of the mixmasters (or a Hamilton Beach) but love my KA and its attachments. That's probably the most versatile of the small appliances I have. I don't generally bake except for company or to take to gatherings in the interest of weight control, but when I sure do like it when I use it. I have a slicer/shredder for it that I use rather than a food processor. Also have the grinder, pasta roller and can opener. I also have one of the older glass bowl KA models that I look forward to displaying and occasionally using down the line.

I also have a Vitamix which I dearly love and makes my breakfast for me pretty much every day. One day when I get around to doing some cooking I'll have to try some of the other things it does.

My favorite toasters are the self lowering Sunbeam and pretty much any Toastmaster (they just make such nice toast). Never found a toaster oven that could make a decent piece of toast, though it sounds like some have found ones they like. My roommate recently purchased a DeLonghi convection oven which is a really nice unit.

Not sure this qualifies as an appliance - but my absolute favorite piece of kitchen gadgetry is a Burner
V Slicer - ( Sorry - don't know how to get the Umlout over the U in Burner ) I have food processors - in 3 different sizes, and every imaginable accessory that Kitchen Aid ever made ( except the ice-cream freezer ) and countless other things to slice,dice, mince, chop etc... but for quick and easy, usage and cleanup - The V slicer comes through every time. Naturally, it is not as fast as any of the electrical stuff - but the sheer convenience, ease, and utter lack of pretentiousness make it a daily use favorite.

AND - I still have all my fingertips too !

I have to say my favorite appliance is my circa 1968 Waring blender. Many thanks to Neptune2000 for the new jar and peeler attachment! I also have a great 1970s Toastmaster toaster (waiting on the attic until I have my own place, with NON-destructive roommates).
 
Cuisnart Griddler

Is this similar to the Lean Mean Grilling machine? His latest one has removeable grids (FINALLY). Can you post a link to this "Griddler"?

If Roommate is having coffee, I'mm make it in either my 1960 Kenmore percolator or my Corningware Electromatic (there's that "O-Matic" again!). Otherwise if it's just me or him, we;ll use a 4 cup Mr. Coffee drip that lives on the counter.

You're right, most toaster ovens make LOUSY toast and take longer, but they DO have their attributes, like being able to butter toast BEFORE toasting (my maternal grandmother used to make toast this way in her Frigidaire range oven) and heating up stuff that needs to be crunchy without heating up large oven. Becasue of this, I use a modern Toastmaster 4 slice toaster to make regular toast.
