Bottled Water
You know what gets to me? Seeing people going through the grocery store with dozens of bottles of water in their carts. Now, I love Perrier, I love Penafiel and a couple of others, but these guys are buying just regular old Dasani or similar stuff! I guess I just don't have that kind of money to blow. Now, I haven't drunk tap water or cooked with it for nearly as long as I can remember. Our local tap water isn't bad but where I really notice the flavor is in either coffee or tea.
I bought a Berkey (Berkfield) countertop filter system long enough ago that I can't remember. Living alone, I use the travel model that only holds about a gallon and a half. I used to own a countertop distiller but it was a pain in the butt to maintain and with my travel schedule I finally gave up. The Berkey uses no power, is quick, is efficient and the black Berkey filters are cleaned and reused. Never a problem with it, and I can't imagine how much I've saved. I wanted/want power-free function because if necessary, I can take water out of the creek flowing through my back yard and filter and drink it. So why do people buy drinking water for their homes?
It breaks my heart to see the people in Puerto Rico without drinking water and receiving so little help. I truly don't understand why we are not distributing those drinking/filter straws at least that enable anyone to drink healthy water. I keep a few for camping emergencies.
