Ach Mein Gott In Himmel
and please excuse my surely incorrect spelling of this German phrase.
Since I injured my right leg last Tuesday I’ve been unable to take my daily 45 to 60 min, walk, and I feel like a caged animal. Those daily walks are my stress reliever, and boy do I need them now. This sprain is one of the very worst I’ve ever had. Twice, in the past I’ve had my leg in a cast for 4 to 6 weeks with an injury just like this one. But theres is no way I’m going to Kaiser now. Fortunately, I’ve plenty of experience in taking care of an injury like this one, and if these were normal times I’d have gone to the doctor.
I immediately applied ice after the injury, and elevated it. My whole calf filled with blood and drained down to my foot, the swelling was very bad. I’m certain that the Prednisone I was taking to clear up the hearing loss in my right ear was the cause for the excessive internal bleeding, and probably contributed to the sprain in the first place.
Thankfully, everyday its been getting better. Today is the best so far, the bruising and swelling are beginning to diminish and I hope to be able to take short walk either this afternoon or tomorrow. I’ve managed the pain with Salonpas and Tylenol, even though we have lots of Opioid meds from previous dental procedures and my hip replacements. I refuse to add insult to injury and get a case of terminal constipation on top of everything else. Last night I switched to aspirin, since the bruising is subsiding and its really helped to reduce the swelling.
At least the Prednisone helped my ear, and I don’t think I’m going to loss the hearing in that ear. And thank God I finished the 10 day course of Prednisone, I’m NOT taking anymore of it!
Just like Nana Roseanna Dana says, “It’s always sump-tin”.
Hope all the rest of you out there are doing OK.
Eddie
