My filter-flo today did something strange, it loaded more water than usual for the wash, we had an electrical owerpower and a voltage drop in our neighborhood just when it was filling with water, this should have caused washer to overfill.....it filled upper to the starting line of the ramps of the activator agitator...
But my question is that, I noticed of it after 10 minutes because my washer started to do a "rubber slipping" noise, no that loud though....
Maybe mine is just paranoia, but I'm afraid that a little (very soapy) water entered in the upper shaft seal and in the transmission, and that noise was the shaft or even the pulley that was riding on a non lubricated seal due to soapy water....maybe the water reached the bottom and the pulley also.....
If so has happened I think or at least hope that it will no damage the transmission that much being just a little amount and probably dropped to the bottom of the tranny......
Do you think that if this has happened may have damaged the tranny and the seals?
I do not want even think about replace the tranny.......
Or anyone know if it could be another sound? Belt have been replaced and pump connector was in good condition and tighten.
I'm afraid on having to replace the seal again as this has already happened and took me alot of time and efforts.....
Does someone know what other sound could have been this?

Thanks

If your FilterFlo is made like an American machine, the agitator actually forms an air dome over the agitator shaft. As the tub fills with water, there is no way for the air inside the agitator to escape. Since it cannot escape, the water cannot displace it. Fill level would not change this. Generally water has to be in a transmission for some time before it would do enough damage to make a noise. A little bit of water would probably not drop to the bottom of the gearcase. What would happen is that it would be a drop of water in a pool of oil and would gradually be churned into the oil which is why transmissions contaminated with water have a creamy look to the oil.

My filterflo is an american machine!!! even if it is Made in Canada though!
But have the same parts and things of a one built in Louisville.
Yes I figured it out just today that water cannot reach the seal due to air being inside, I thought it had an air escaping somewhere, thank you for explaining me anyway.
Do not really know what that sound was though, it sounded similar to a slipping belt, maybe was again the belt that went, that 5$ belt I got on eBay, it was not an original part so may be this.
But my problem is another now...oil in the tub.... please read my other thread:http://www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?37800
Thank you so much!

We had a beautiful GE that one night let out all of the transmission oil all over the basement floor. That was just after the clutch had been replaced and the machine was less than two years old. It ruined the nice green paint on the floor, but the serviceman who took it out of the basement (we got out money back) told my mother to be grateful it was the bottom seal that went. If the top seal had gone, the oil would have ruined the laundry. Actually, it probably would not have ruined the laundry, just made a mess that most people would not have wanted to deal with. One night John and I went to a very expensive townhouse in North Bethesda (don't call it Rockville!) where the GE washer had done the same thing in the basement and there was about an acre of white carpet between the front hall and the basement stairs. We rigged up a diaper for the machine with a drop cloth and some beautiful white towels the lady said to use. We moved fast and got it out of her house without losing a drop of oil on her carpet. Pretreater and hot detergent water got the oil out of the towels, but she had said she did not want them back so John had some nice towels to use.

As I remember, mom used the GE for a couple of weeks without oil in the tranny as the remaining oil dripped out. What a mess that was to clean up!

The infamous GE oil leaks

Alrady happened to me the lower seal failure! Just say a mess! From what I've understand is sure that oil leaks with FilterFlos sooner or later will occur to everyone.....
Fortunately with the kind help and support of members, and especially Ed F. that sent an oil seal to me and followed me step by step in this thing
we managed to fix it.....
Now is leaking from the upper shaft seal though, Damn! This time maybe would be best to replace the whole tranny as it might be that is the tub tranny seal that went also, letting water entering inside and pushing oil up, would be great if anyone could help me even this time or sell&ship an extra tranny over here in Italy to me,I would pay everything with paypal!
I'm changing washer now but would like to keep my GE as it is a good washer, and would be a pity send it to the scrapper just for this damn tranny's seals and oil leaks, and also, these kind of washer here cost ALOT to buy new! So.....I'd like to give her another surgery and keep her alive.....
