Finally found a Rollermatic!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

And...

be careful about what you let those vice grips ride against. The pump is pot metal, and it will crack or you will stress the pump seal if you let anything ride against that part.

that's why i always put the one side of the

vice grips inside a hollow metal pipe, that way i can hold that vice grip from turning without putting any stress on any part of the pump or washer itself. actually i hold it with my foot. i use a 3 ft long peice of 1 1/2 inch steel pipe. i was worried about the same thing, damaging that pump.

Once you get the broken agitator off, you'll be able to see the damage, if any, to the key-way. You will probably be able to find a replacement key at the local ACE hardware, mine has them here and that sounds like a pretty standard size. This is a pretty common error for many with these machines, I did it to a 1-18 many years ago and had to quietly sneak the machine out to the trash under the cover of darkness from the shame!

Congrats on the machine - you'll love it!

Agitator

I have a new (in box and never used) jetcone agitator that I got off of ebay a couple of years back. I may also have the water bellows that you need ... I had bought a box of miscellaneous GM Frigidaire parts a while back. Todd

todd, you're wonderful!

not only did you give me that awesome rollermatic wa2L 1966 model (of which i am very grateful) but now you can help out a fellow member with that agitator!

that's what makes this site so wonderful!

by the way, i found the only thing wrong with the rollermatic you gave me is a water bellows leak! i am in the process of fixing it now! everything else runs fine, motor sounds like new and bearings are very quiet. it's a great machine and i love it!

and i found it uses the same timer and wiring schematic as the wa2N 1967 model that i got from walt. it has no top console or timer so i am using your machine's wiring diagram to get the wa2n up and running! thanks again!

Yeah I just emailed todd. It would be so sweet if I could get that jetcone. Now all I need is an oil bellows and I'll be thumpin in no time!

i just talked to

mark again about a different matter and he did tell me he e mailed you to tell you tghat his source in pittsburgh says he can get more oil and water bellows.

lets hope so!

question though. i have always wondered, if the water bellows is on correctly and doing it's job then no water gets inside of it. even when tub drains water level never reaches that high in the outer tub to even touch bottom part of inner tub, hence no water again could seep into the inside area of the water bellows. so why do we we even need a oil bellows in the first place?

i would think a simple water bellows would be enough?

if anyone knows, please tell me, would like to know.

Cross your fingers, Jethro

when a brother sent me a water bellows, I was so careful getting the torn one out, slipping upward oh so gently, then one false pull and I ripped open a perfectly lubed gorgeous oil bellows that had bonded to the top of the water bellows. A devastating loss. But, hey that's part of the hobby, ain't it?

I have an order for three. The guy works slowly. So hope for you and hope for me, and pretty soon we'll be oilin' again. One is yours! Anyone else need the third?

Didn't get a price yet, but it's yours

weird that he wanted me to buy three. I said sure, why buy one when you can have three rarities.

Gotta cool rollermatic mystery for you and Joel to figure out, but it'll keep till tomorrow because now I need some serious ZZZZ's. See y'all later.

Well, it's not going great. I can not loosen the tub nut. I am soaking it in WD-40 and giving it a couple of wacks now and then... I took the oil and water bellows of my multi-matic... are these compatible?? It looks as if they are and it would sure be nice if they did. I'm still working on getting the top metal part of the bellows out of the bottom of the pulsator and the agitator nut. Once I get a hold of Todd and if he sells me the pulsator I am going to cut up the pulsator right to the point and see if I can't get things disconnected. Curse old machines and everything that won't come loose DAMMIT!

Yes!!!

It's hard as hell, that's for sure!!! It's worth it in the end. See if you can pull those bellows out of that pulsator, soak them good... You need to get the PB Blaster, I'm telling you WD-40 is nothing compared to it.

Did you get the correct wrench yet? With the right wrench and the right spray to help loosen it and with enough soaking time you'll be surprised how easy she'll come loose. I know I was.

I worked my ass off for 3 days with a pair of channel locks. I got the correct wrench and soaked it in PB for 2 days and it came right off with about six whacks of the hammer.

Hang in there Jed. Steve is right, some heat helps out wonders. If you do hack the cone heat up the nut (not the shaft) for about 15 seconds or so, while spinning the nut evenly under the heat. This has helped me out of so many jams in the past.

Also - Joe's advice on having the tub nut wrench is critical. 1 1/2 inch. While the wrench in the link is expensive, slugging wrenches really are life savers if this is going to be an on-going hobby ;-)

Wrench

I had a friend who had the wrench I needed and he cut it in half for me, that's how I got mine. Any 1 1/2 inch wrench that has been cut into so it's short enough to fit in the tub will do, or the slugging wrench is equivalent as well. Be certain you get a boxed end and not an open end wrench, you need to develop even torque without slippage on that nut.
