first of all, i'd like to thank 2 members here in the group, ovrphil/phil & Rogera608s/roger. without them, none of this would of been possible & i wouldn't be a proud owner of a maytag A806 & DE808 set!!
THANK YOU:
phil, for posting the craigslist ad that had this maytag set for sale here in tucson.
roger, for coming to my aid and helping me pick them up & giving them a thorough checkup & their clean bills of health.
you both had an important role in me getting this awesome set!!!
WOOOOO HOOOOO!!!
now to give you all a rundown on these golden beauties here.
according to luke, the seller, he got this maytag set from his friend, who had bought a house, that these came in. the guy didn't want them because he already had his newer washer & dryer and had no use for these old maytags and he was going to get rid of them. so luke said he'd take them.
luke said that he wanted these as a back up set, just in case anything happened to the maytag washer, that he & his wife are currently using. but after a year of them being in the garage & taking up space, luke's wife said, they need to get rid of the old maytag washer & dryer to make more room in their garage. so luke posted them on craigslist.
now after getting them home, and roger & me opening them up, we could see that they were very clean inside the cabinets. the washer could use a damp wipedown inside the cabinet and the dryer had minor linting and could do with a wipedown too. but roger said, he would bet that this set was in someone's winter-home, and probably seen very little use. the washer still had the original maytag hoses and the damper pads haven't gotten misplaced. the buttons have yellowed some but the lettering is still very readable. the washtub/basket is very clean & shiney. the print on the timer control knob is very clear & readable. there are some minor scratches in the paint, on the sides of the cabinets and on the top of the back-cover, of the dryer's control panel. but nothing that would disturb the functions of the washer or dryer. and to top it all, the lights work on both control panels.
we plugged both in and they both work properly. the lint filter had minor lint on the dryer and the washer's lint filter, did have some lint & build up, but nothing compared to how the 208 or 608 filters were. and roger cleaned up the lint filter real good by brushing, poking, and wiping it off.
the only "bad" news i have to report is 2 things;
1. we couldn't get the agitator off.
2. there is a tiny water leak that drips, when the washer is filling up. i lifted the top and i could see exactly where the drip is. i don't know the proper name of the part, but it is the plastic piece that connects the tubing that fills the washer.
as for the agitator not coming up, we only filled the washer with the HOT water and let it agitate. the next step is to do the boiling water method. and see if i can get the agitator to budge. but i will give it a few days because i think i strained my lower back, trying to pull up on the agitator again.
i'll keep you posted if i can get the agitator to move, after i've done the boiling water agitation.
now for the part you've all been waiting for, maytag GA806 washer
