We had a dinner party Saturday evening, so it was a good forced 'excuse' to finally attend to our display case. It was shabby and unorganized since the move, with inappropriate items in it, and important items NOT in it.
So I got it straightened out. I still have some "fine tuning" to do to it, but it has come together. Lighting is back on.
This was a 1950s era bread case from a Los Angeles market. We bought it from a couple who owned an collectible store who were displaying items in it, but did not need it any longer. I had to rent a truck to get it to the old house.
I rebuilt the bottom, ripping out bad wood and replacing it with fresh wood, and new steel casters. My wife and I repainted the inside and installed felt on each level.
It took four guys to get it into this house through the front door, and they barely made it.
It is solid wood, aluminum and glass. The glass doors are removable, and they are super thick and close with a thunk. We love this case and it is home to many of our vintage small items.
