We had a dinner party Saturday evening, so it was a good forced 'excuse' to finally attend to our display case. It was shabby and unorganized since the move, with inappropriate items in it, and important items NOT in it.

So I got it straightened out. I still have some "fine tuning" to do to it, but it has come together. Lighting is back on.

This was a 1950s era bread case from a Los Angeles market. We bought it from a couple who owned an collectible store who were displaying items in it, but did not need it any longer. I had to rent a truck to get it to the old house.

I rebuilt the bottom, ripping out bad wood and replacing it with fresh wood, and new steel casters. My wife and I repainted the inside and installed felt on each level.

It took four guys to get it into this house through the front door, and they barely made it.

It is solid wood, aluminum and glass. The glass doors are removable, and they are super thick and close with a thunk. We love this case and it is home to many of our vintage small items.

Kevin, I love the case and it looks beautiful, but what I really noticed was the great "Shag" posters!!! Did you get those at Whako on Hollywood Blvd? I bought a lot of Shag stuff there recently...........

Posters....

"Kevin, I love the case and it looks beautiful, but what I really noticed was the great "Shag" posters!!!"

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.

FilterFlow--I was unaware of the "Shag" name for these. These are actually postcards that we bought at the Cinerama Dome gift shop when we went to see the re-release of 3-Strip "This is Cinerama" (which was amazing).

My wife had these blown up and mounted on that spongy type board. (I can't believe she got Kinko's to do it. They would not blow up my 1939 World's Fair postcards, because they said Copyright on them, if you can believe that.) They have their own glossy finish. In our old house, I redid the dining room with white smooth paneling, and we had these on each wall stuck on with two sided sponge tape. I was able to get them off without creasing them when we moved.

I got an idea to just kind of lean them against the wall on top of the case, and it worked.

I love the art. It's that 50s futuristic, Jetsons, outer space theme.

Kevin, Since you live in LA, you should check out a shop there called Wacko. Its located at 4633 Hollywood Blvd, about a mile or so after Western Ave going towards Silver Lake. Ph: 323 663 0122 . They have some of the coolest neat stuff that you would probably go wild over. They have lots and lots of "Shag" stuff such as post cards, books, calendars, posters, lunch boxes, napkins, tshirt, etc. I bought a Tiki poster to add to a fold down bar that I have. One of my first stops on any trip to LA is at Wacko!

PS. they also have a website: www.soapplant.com

Oooooooooh!

Kevin, you're a man after my own heart!

I'm working on taking picture of my toys; why don't you do the same and we can have a Baby Boomer's Trip Down Memory Lane?
