Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

It's an RR-9TA, differing from the RR-9T by the lack of an extra chrome ridge around the keypad. Also interesting, is that the Radarange badge is different from my RR-9T, but also different from Ben's RR-9TA!

Even stranger, of all the Radar's in the collection, holding the Start button causes the buzzer to activate on the 9T, but all the others in the collection lock and run as long as the button is held.

How many do you have?

I have two now rr 9ta's and I got my hands on the instruction booklet as well with the second one.. Now there's two more advertized in the weekly classifieds paper. I have't called yet but should,,just in case one is an older dial model.
To me they're something you just can't help liking the look of.

You'd think that between Cory and I, we'd have enough to fill a counter! Cory has the RR4, RR6 (first touchmatic), RR10 (touchmatic II), RR900(?), and now for the collection, the RR9TA (late) and his parent's RR9T (early), both Touchmatics. I have a RR9TA I currently use, and a spare RR900. I think he has control panels for a RR3 and the non defrost RR4. I almost landed an RR4 last weekend, but the seller couldn't find it in a sea of boxes!

Okay, now I'm confused.

Hands up, anyone who's surprised. Nobody? Good.
I've got a RR9TA that looks nothing like yours. Barbara's got her numbers in two rows, not 3 (plus 0). So what gives? How many different 9TAs are there? And what's the difference between 'em?
I have the instruction manual for the RR10T, and I could be wrong, but it doesn't look like it has as many features as my 9TA?
Rick, what's your model number? Pete?

Hey Veg -

There should be a paper tag that has an ink stamping with the month and date on it, example, the tag that is positioned in the middle of the back, on mine at home says "January 1981". The unit we just picked up this weekend was made in June of 1981. I assume either your unit was made right after our most recent find, or the control panel was swapped out, as the swtich to the RR900 came in 82 or 83. Once you get past 1980, the models get very confiusing!

When it comes to features, one of the differences between the RR9 and the RR10 is the number of programs, RR9 has two, vs RR10 that has 4. Also if I remember correctly the RR10 has a timer feature as well, otherwise very close. I think both models may have debut around 1978/79.

Model & Serial #'s

Both my RR's are Model RR-9TA

One mfg January 1981 serial BB51802692

other mfg July 1981 serial ED54574791

Check against the serial numbers if there is any sequential order to them?

Can't quite see in your picture but it looks like your, other than the horizontal number pad,has a larger timer window with more stuff other than the timer and clock digits?

Differences

On Barbara, this is a glimpse of what was to come with the Radaranges - while using the real full chrome housing. Cory, correct me if I'm wrong, but the display would be a vac flourescent display - vs. the 7 segment red display on the early version of the RR9. Also, veg's display has words associated with the current state of the machine in the display itself, where the earlier versions have LED's indicators in the button on the panel. Both Barbara and the RR9 on the top of the page have the same functions, but Barbara has the new layout that was to come with units down the road. When I get home, I'll get serial numbers from my units and stop by Cory's to get his numbers to post for comparison.

Pete, does the "Radarange - made only by Amana" look exactly like yours on the model built in July or January?

This is getting interesting!

Ben

Serials and models

Okay, Here is what we have for the RR9xx:

My current unit
RR9TA - Jan 1980
Serial - EA54806686
MFG - P73559-2M

Unit picked up this weekend:
RR9TA - Feb 1981
Serial - BB51980986
MFG - P74749-1M

Cory's Mom's:
RR9T - July 1978 - no serial retrieved, sold on Feb 28th, 1979

RR10 - Aug 1979 - no serial retrieved

An interesting tidbit found today was the owner's manual to a RR9 (which was found in a junkyard). The original RR9 looked like an RR6W, but with a manual cookmatic lever at the top of the control panel, instead of the 7 seg readout on the RR9xx.

Also in the list that was compiled after a night w/ some Radarange repair manuals, we noted that there was a RR9TB made sometime in 1981 as well!! I guess we can just keep collecting models and serials, and keep on the lookout for more units.

So Veg, what kind of serial numbers do you have for me?

Ben

(for photos of some of these units, see the much-outdated Radarange page!)

The "rr made only by Amana" looks exactly the same as above pictures

Looks like my Jan 81 serial # has same letters BB with lower numbering 518xxxxxx compared to your Feb 81 starting 519xxxxxx

Here's what I have

All righty, here's what it says on Barbara's back. I'll come right out and admit that I didn't get the serial number; it was late, I was cranky, and the flashlight was acting funky.
Model: RR9TA
Production code: P73559-3M
Mfr. Date: March, 1981.

Does this tell us anything? Too early for me, not enough caffeine yet.

Very interesting!

Thanks for the date!

The date is key - as there seems to be a conflict now. Pete has the standard RR9TA panel, made in July of 81. I'll now assume that your serial will fit between my Feb 81 and Pete's July 81, somewhere in the numbering range. Untill Cory and I can confirm w/ a night at the Amana repair shop, I'll assume that at sometime, someone swapped out the control panel. This isn't a bad thing at all - I think Barbara is quite attractive!

I normally would think that is a fishy theory - but last winter, Crystal and I had a small gathering, and one of the guests mentioned that her parents had a Radarange a lot like mine. She said that at one time, there were two dials, then they broke (??). Instead of buy a new microwave, they had the repair shop put in a new panel that was described to look like Barbara, with the numbers in two rows, described before I met Barbara ------ but these are just theories.
