Microsoft's new Virtual Earth is really cool! I love Google Earth as well, but it seems with this newer Virtual Earth the details are even crisper and you can really zoom down to the street level and the pictures stay really sharp. It also seems like the pictures are more current.

http://maps.live.com/ is the address. You will have to install the 3D module to get the high resolution scenery, but it's worth it. If you find your house, press your "Print Screen" button on your keyboard (this puts the picture onto your clipboard). Then open your photo editor software, create a new image and select Edit...Paste to bring in your picture. Then save it as a JPEG file and post here.

Here is our house (I marked it with an X), I love how crisp these pictures and you can even zoom down lower practically to the street!

And if I attach some helium balloons to my lawn chair this is what it would like after I went up a mile or two. I love this, it's the closest thing to flying yet, without resorting to witchcraft, LOL.

I circled where our house is.

That is cool; I think you're lucky to have that lake/park across the street too. I also like homes with back alleys - very convenient.

I did something similar around 2000 with the Terraserver, which I think Microsoft bought. At that time it was black and white. I saved the file and used it as wallpaper for my computers at work and at home. Later shots show changes I've made to the property.

I couldn't get the 3D to load correctly so here's our place from Google earth. You can even see the slate pathways in the backyard right over the Ro of roof. The neighborhood is heavily treed with massive oaks so it's difficult to see much

And from a greater distance the city at the bottom tip of Lake Huron. The St.Clair River separates Canada on the right from the USA on the left.. Port Huron MI is the city adjacent to Sarnia' on the left side.

Our house is too new to show up, but here's my parents house before we moved in (the X). The little brown box is where mine and Helen's house is.

Here's a 2D shot of home sweet home. The X is the main house. The Y is the garage/workshop complex. Koi pond is under the beige colored square next to main house (it's a reed fence screen, keeps the seabirds from fishing the pond).

You guys are right out in the open!

You can only see a bit of my roof (in the summer, at least).

The lighter area shows my property, more or less. Between the heat and the lack of rainfall, my lake is very low and algae-covered.

Kevin, you have a nice big property there. Where's the vegetable garden? Looks ideal for sweet corn!

There were zero trees on my property when I bought it 10 years ago. So I've planted over 20 of them. Had to remove a few that got in the way of the veggies. I have tried to avoid having trees drop litter on the building roofs, though. Cleaning out gutters is not my idea of a good time ;-).

Here's a pic of our house back in Calgary. I like how google lets you alter the plane to get a side view albeit a bit distorted.. this is looking east towards the city and the Rocky Mtns. The furrowed field to the left of the house was part of our 5 acres. The furrowed land directly behind the house was sold just when we moved to a guy who was going to build a 15,000 sq ft house on it... I figure the folks who bought our house and the 5 acres are probably going to turn the house into a garage or guesthouse and put something mega sized up or else just tear it down..those little dots around the house are all the pines and spruce trees we dug up 12 years ago in the mountains. My white car in the driveway.

Why so much whitespace surrounding my image? I cut/pasted it using MS Paint, it seems to take as much screen space as the original photo did. I'm not very experienced with image mods.

in the forest

I'm having trouble getting the 3D to install also, and when I try sending myself a google earth image it has my address plastered all over it..and I guess THAT ain't good~

Fun thread though and I shall endeavor to get some kind of useable image of the forrest in which I live.

Up close and personal - our house is the one on the bend next to the junction, with the silver car in the drive (our old one) and windows in the roof :-).

The side garden is completely different now - we now only have one shed there, the side is all gravelled with a patio area and pots, and the back garden is in the process of having a new patio laid and will be landscaped in the summer - it's all going on :-).

I finally got it going but the pictures of Sarnia aren't near as good as the Google earth pictures. I'm guessing that the MS version has some newer pictures of some cities and some older ones of others.
