Mozilla's developers are excellent listeners.

Almost every gripe I had about Firefox 3.0 has been fixed. Version 3.5 loads four times faster, bookmark ordering and management is a breeze, much better privacy handling, and on and on.

Finally I can dump Internet Explorer for good!

How did I get to be 50 and not understand what half those words mean, LOL?!

I just click on the little compass, and online stores, a weather map of the United States, and a site about washing machines (apparently run by a nice Jewish man with fuzzy hair), magically appear!

I don't understand what there is to hate about its bookmarking.

About half my bookmarks are sorted in separate folders, and the other half are unsorted in the main folder. Using Cut/Paste it took about five minutes to get my unsorted list exactly as I want to see it. Using IE the same operation takes half an hour!

3.5 Is Fine, As Long...

...As you know about the "Old Location Bar" add-on. The standard location bar in 3.5, called the Awesome Bar, is a love-it-or-hate-it feature I dubbed the Loathsome Bar after five minutes of use. I personally was ready to go back to 2.0, I detested the Loathsome Bar so much. But "Old Location Bar" fixed the problem, replacing the Loathsome Bar with the one I was used to from previous versions.

The "Create Shortcut" add-on is also useful to me, letting me put shortcuts on the desktop like you can with IE.

I love 3.5 pages load very quickly, it is a little slow in loading but that is my computer not FireFox. I was using IE, but after I updated FireFox to 3.5.2 I went back to FireFox

Yep, love Firefox...

I'd been putting off installing 3.5.2 but broke down and did it yesterday. Did not want to loose any of my add ons. some were not updated back in June when 3.5 first popped up. I'd never consider using any browser that did not have the functionality I get now. This is what I have added on:

Ad Block Plus --> gets rid of all those annoying ads on web pages

Autohide --> select what to show or hide in full screen mode

Better Gmail--> enhances Gmail

Cleo --> lets me package all my add ons for easy installation

FEBE --> Backs up Firefox data, works with CLEO

Forecastbar enhanced --> weather data and radar on the bottom bar

Mcafee Site Advisor--> when doing a search indicates if the site is safe or full of virus or adware.

Optimoze Tweaks --> the ONE and ONLY add on I could not live without! Allows you to show your bookmarks or history in a side bar that rolls out when you move your mouse to the left edge of the screen.

Password Exporter--> does what it says, if adding another computer easy access to all your saved site passwords.

Remove It Permanently --> allows you to remove items from any web page. I use it on sites that have a large bar full of advertising along the right side. Just highlight what you want gone and it will remove it form the page, or the entire domain.

Session Manager --> Lets you pick up where you left off after closing the browser. Restores all the tabs and content, lets you choose from any number of sessions over the last few weeks as well as letting you open closed tabs if you want to retrieve some info.

Tab Mix plus--> give you many options to deal with tabs and yow the are opened.

If anyone is interested I used Cleo to make a package of all my add ons and I can email it to who ever might want it, just let me know.

Yay

3.5 is pretty awesome; I've been upgrading client computers as fast as I can.

Safari 4, on the other hand, has really pissed me off, and I'm guessing I'm not crazy, since the .0.1, .0.2, and .0.3 updates just keep coming...

Ok once and for all...

are "Mozilla" and "Firefox" the same thing, or different?

I have used Mozilla and Crazy Browser in the past, particularly when IE did not offer "tabbed browsing."

I quit because my laptop mouse touchpad thingy would not co-exist with them. Maybe they've fixed that, but no matter, I can at least try it, since the laptop is now hooked up to the TV and most of the time I use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

Mozilla is a world-wide open source project.

Firefox is a web browser, one of Mozilla's individual projects.

Ok, so I've installed this thing and so far think it's the bomb. When I've used it in the past I've never really paid attention to addons, but have already found two (one suggested above) and eventually will page through all that and swee what's interesting.

It loads fast, does not crash every 5 minutes and when you request a new tab, it doesn't take 2 minutes to get one. I still can't use the little scroll bar thing on the laptop mousepad thing, but realize I can use the arrow keys, even though I use the bluetooth keyboard most of the time anyway.

The add-on Default Zoom Level 4.2 lets you set (and hold) magnification level like on IE, which is helpful since I use a TV for my monitor.

So far, so good!

Firefox updates every time...

I don't know this for sure, but a typical view in the open source world is "release early, release often." This can get new features out faster, I guess, but it does mean more updates. And often more problems that need to be fixed later on. Updates can be a pain, although I guess I prefer it to other ways of handling software, like waiting for a security hole to be exploited before doing anything, or letting a web browser's development go dormant for several years until a hot competitor shows up.
