SubZeros, Vikings and other built-in countertop depth refrigerators are commonly equipped with panels to match the cabinets. They don't disappear because the size of the doors is much larger than ordinary cabinet doors. Thankfully these refrigerators can be ordered without door-mount dispensers which makes for a cleaner look.

And don't forget dishwashers, you see them pretty frequently in posh homes with a front that matches the cabinetry doors.
I know what you mean about the "Built In" vs "Built In Look". Under counter dishwashers are built in because they are screwed to the cabinets and plumbing connections vs just having a hole in the wall and the appliance just slid into that hole. Sub Zero is a built in refrigerator in the best sense of the term. So are built in ovens.

If 'built-in' also means permanently installed, I guess dishwashers in the 1940s and early 1950s were pretty much all 'built-in' by default; they were units meant to be installed around cabinets but they could also have been used as 'stand alone' units away from or near the rest of the counters. There were also the 'electric sinks' containing the sink, counter, and dishwasher which a kitchen could be built around.
