Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Ah, Well...

...One of the things about the old McDonald's food was that there was actually a time when we hadn't had it before, so it was something new and exciting. The more you get of something, the less exciting it is, which also explains an awful lot of peoples' love lives.

The other thing is that the food police have forced changes on McDonalds that may have some health benefits, but which have changed the taste. The fries used to be cooked in beef tallow, which was not good for anyone, but it was delicious. I don't know why people go around today expecting McDonald's food to be good for them, anyway - it stands to reason that red meat, carbs and fat are something you should consume in moderation.

I well remember when McDonald's was something new, and our parents were cautious about it. We got it as an occasional treat, but parents were careful to see to it that good, balanced home-cooked meals were the backbone of our diet. It seems to me that they had it right - fast food should be a treat, not a way of life.

I'm old enough to remember when McDonalds made a decent burger. Now they just make me sick.

Besides the mentioned cooking fat for the fries that i now, think have a funny taste. All these fast food joints have way to many menu items, I realize its marketing, but its also what makes Fast food SLOW. Have you ever been at the drive up window behind a minivan full of school age kids? Just park and go to the counter. alr2903..... Laundryshark cute commercial, thanks

Laundry Shark:

Thanks for the link - looks like it's available only as real-time broadcast, not as archived material. I learned about "Open Line" some years ago, while researching an online article about the 1950s and '60s; it's available here:

http://jetsetmodern.com/rmc.htm
There is also an "Open Line" tribute site, with recipes and household hints going back to the show's beginning in 1963. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a dose of housekeeping nostalgia:

While you're on the site, be sure to click on one of the old-time radios at the top of the home page, to hear the original "Open Line" theme.

Beef Tallow...

Nobody uses tallow to make food. Beef fat, maybe.

And beef fat is far less unhealthy than its common replacement, hydrogenated vegetable oil. It contains loads of trans fatty acids, which are very bad for the heart and circulatory system. More and more food chains - due to public concern - are switching to non-hydrogenated or "trans-fat free" vegetable oils, but it can be difficult to figure out which ones have eliminated the hazard.

it was a treat!!

I seldom eat McDonalds..not that it taast bad I just think it's unhealthy..the guilt vs pleasure is'nt worth it..but I remember as a child of the 60's..it was a major treat to go to McDonalds..the one where I grew up did'nt have inside seating for years..it was either get and go, or they had round picnic tables with metal umbreallas one could sit at....fries dipped in a chocolate shake were my favoriate. But as Danemodsandy point out..our parents limited our intake...I was a bit of a prude when my kids were growing up....they got a ton of fast food compared to me..but very little compared to their counter parts. My sisters daughter is 17 and weights 279 pounds...my sis and daughter complain all the time about how big she is and how difficut it is to buy clothing thats not old ladyish..however everytime we talk they've just come back from McDonalds, Wendy's, Krystal or KFC..go figure..LOL!!

After the outbreak of Hepatitis A at one of our McDonalds I won't be eating at McDonalds for a little while. I do love their fries out of any fast food place.

Willard Scott

When I was a youngster,on NBC's Channal 4 (WRC, Washinton,D.C.)they had a clown named"Cousin Cupcake" and I think that Willard Scott played that carractor. I am not positive but that show along with the original McDonald's comercial have an actor that portrays Willard. His voice sounds just like them and their charactoristics are also similar. Anyone here that feels the same or knows for a fact that both are definately a younger Willard Scott???? He is currently ( and has been for decades) one of the newscasters on the Today Show on NBC.He celebrates folks that are 100 years old and older(centurians)and the national weather forcasts.
