So do I use liquid wrench to keep the new spline in place in the agitator? And do u use the hair dryer to dry the liquid wrench? And the pin holes, the agitator has like 3 small open spaces under the cap. Would I still need to drill pin holes and if so where?

If the agitator is stuck, and you have it connected, the first thing I would try is filling the machine all the way up with HOT water and operating, if possible. The heat and steam will help to loosen parts.

Wrap a towel around the top of the agitator and strike gently, if it still has not broken loose.

Using a hair drier, aimed at the top of the agitator will also help to warm.

You should be able to put drops of L.W. into the top of the agitator, after romoving the rubber cover. That will need time to soak into the metal.

Worse case scenario, you may need to ruin the agitator, and deal with the remaining spline. Here is where is may be necessary to drill small holes.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think doug's problem is only the activator spline hub that is stuck on the transmission shaft spline, not the entire activator.

I had that happen on an old girlfriend's Filter Flo, and I was able to remove it with a propane torch, a pair of vicegrips clamped onto the hub stuck on the shaft, and a hammer to tap up on the vicegrips. Just make sure if you use a propane torch to heat, wrap a wet cloth around the rubber seal and keep it wet so that it doesn't get damaged.

You might also try using a flywheel puller to pull the hub off; I didn't have one that would get underneath the hub and not slip off, so I had to use the torch and vicegrips method.

tub indexing is a sign of

worn brake pads inside the tranny. GE's will eventually wear to the point you get "sympathetic spin" , especially bad in the solid tub machines, as all the wash water gets spun out. tranny needs to be taken apart at some point and a new brake pad installed. The pert tub machines can get away with it more than the solid tub.

Yes, thanks, this is my problem. The agitator spline is stuck to the tranny. I pulled the agitator off of the spline. And my question was how to properly replace a new spline in the agitator?

Doug, it might be easier to find a complete activator than to try to replace the spline in your current activator. I don't know if it's even possible to do so actually, although someone will come along here and tell us both how, or offer you a replacement activator.

Yes, you can get the drive block separately and save the agitator. Been there, done that. I've had to use a Dremel and cut the old frozen drive block off the shaft. Clean the threads on the trans shaft and make sure you use the new agi keeper ring that comes with the new block. As far as seating the new block in the agi, I've used Windex as a lubricant while pressing it in. People have used other stuff to lube it but can run the risk of it being too oily or degrading the rubber...

GE FF's have also been one of the washers that usually respond well to the Agi tamer when trying to pull a stuck agitator...

question is how badly damaged are the splines of the rubber part that is causing it to slip?.....I am wondering if the ruber part broke free from the metal shaft causing it to slip.....

Yea I need to post some pics. When I go home ill take some. We been up my g-mals. I think my problem is maybe I put to much Vaseline on the outer rubber of the spline but I'll have to take pics and go from there!
