hello all,

Just wanted to share the results of a few days of hard work in prep for the holiday season. This was the first project to start the cleaning and prep for this holiday.

It was a project that was to clean the floors and wax them.

Here are the results

Mike

Looking Great! Would have never thought to use it on floors, though I've used it on furniture a few times. I personally don't like the smell at all, it smells like lighter fluid or kerosene to me.

This is the way I remember floors being waxed when I was a kid in the 50's and 60's. The beauty of paste wax is that you can rebuff the floors at least a couple of times before you have to reapply the wax. This way you can have nice shiney floors for a couple of mo. without reapplication. Also, we used to use a colored formulation of Johnson's Paste Wax called "Indian Sand". This was wonderful for hardwood floors that were scratched. The color in the wax "filled in" the scratches making the floors look like almost new. Easier and cheaper that refinishing, and sure worked great if you were a renter.

Paste wax is good for lubing the way tubes on a Shopsmith-they even recommend Johnsons Wax.Use it on the saw tabletop,too-makes the wood slide over the table easier. Can be used on other table saws, too.Just clean and shine the table first.

Johnsons Paste Wax

Used to have a parquet floor in the foyer.....was a lot of work to do but never looked better when freshly waxed.....and I loved the smell!

Johnson's is howmy Mom always waxed.  Wax on/Wax off.  All on her hands and knees and by hand.  Later she used the Kirby to buff, but still applied by hand.

Waxed floors are by nature slippery

Remember all those cartoon and comedy skits in vintage movies showing persons slipping on freshly waxed floors?

Thing one hates about using paste wax is for days or even weeks turning on the oven, range burners or anything else that heats via a fire reacts with wax fumes producing a nasty whiff.

Only do floor waxing with paste in cooler months of the year. This way one can leave the windows open to air things out.

There is nothing quite like the smell of this product , that is for sure. It has been quite the show watching our cats get used to the newly waxed floors..... There have been a few head on run ins with the cabinets.

Hope that everyone has a fantastic Thanksgiving, and or rest of the week

Mike
