Pat, your information about Whirlpool in general is most informative. Among other things, I had always wondered why the 'RCA Whirlpool' branding was done and how long it lasted (my mother's first washer, a wringer, was badged RCA Whirlpool).
mrcleanjeans - thanks for the background info on the D&M produced dishwashers. The American Kitchens machine had always fascinated me - I suspected it was the first 'roto tray' style dishwasher. I had no idea that the first Whirlpool was like that or that Crosley even MADE dishwashers!

Pat,you are a wonderfully informed guy. I know that some of these source websites have mixed up data however. For example,
GE claims that they invented the 1st integrated motor and pump design in 1967, which is odd since KitchenAid, the inventer of the 1st home spray arm machine already had that years earlier as did most everyone by then. Also,on this website, Robert posted a thread on Walker machines including the square 1932 GE which was still non-automatic.Sears website is sometimes mixed up too,though you are right that Whirlpool started as Upton. So it's not a reflection on you but on them. Many portable non-automatics were already out in the 20s. My source for that was to go to the library and personally looked at the old magazine articles from them. Since this was a long time back , I don't remember the mags,but there is a drawing of one on the Garden Web laundry Forum. Odd to have it there but it was.Consumer Reports had automatic WP dishwashers in their test, the D/M ones before 1959, rating them fair in washing.I appreciate the company history you've shared,I'm sure I could learn alot from you,thanks.David

I believe the key here is Whirlpool had sold dishwashers by 1956, but they didn't make their own dishwashers, they had D&M make them. In 1959 Whirlpool produced their first dishwasher which got rated #1 in consumer reports. Here is an early (1964 or so) Whirlpool Dishwasher...

'64 Whirlpool

OOOH! Stainless Steel! That is a lovely machine.
Sigh - It reminds me of the 1967 Inglis "Centennial" dishwasher (to underline the Canadian centennial no doubt!) that my best friend's folks had until about 5 years ago. I nearly died when I found out they replaced it with a brand-new Maytag!!!

Whirlpool

I have heard much about the first made whirlpool dishwasher. I would love to see some close up of this machine. It is supposed to look like a phone dial on the console! Is that true? Anyone with any specs or pictures.
Thanks Robert for displaying the 1964 - it is awsome.
