I cant figure out!

Why a TOL range didn't have a oven window??? I believe its going to clean up nice, I think the little old lady who had it originally really took good care of it, but the kids who bought the house after she died must have fried and broiled everything..GREASE!!! but under it it looks like new.I just hope the Sensi Temp works.

Hans, if this was made for a griddle over both units, wouldn't it have a setting on the burner controls for 'griddle' to tie together the units for heating the griddle? I think about this time is when GE was converting to the single burner griddle.

That's gorgeous, Hans. It looks like you might have a griddle button, I'll bet they were still using the larger griddle at this point. I can't wait to see it plugged in and lighted, such a pretty range.

I saw this same range in a basement at a sale a few years ago but they wouldn't sell it. Covered up with a plastic tarp, cold and lonely in a corner, they said the house was sold with it so they couldn't sell it. I'm sure the new owners took one look and waved it away like rubbish.

Yours appears to be a J304W, from 1962 and sans window.  The corresponding model in 1963 (J304X) featured the window door.  Here's the description of the range from the 1962 Sweets catalog:

"MODEL J304W - A 30-inch de luxe G-E Keyboard Range with a 23-inch Master Oven.  Many attractive features include a new ultra-high speed Sensi-Temp unit that maintains desired temperature automatically.  It may be used as a 4", 6" or 8" unit.  Other extra-value features include automatic oven timer, radiant-heat broiler, famous G-E Push-button Controls, fluorescent surface light, oven light and Dawn-gray oven interior.  G-E speed grill optional.  Tilt-lock units with removable trim rings.  Storage drawer.  Mix-or-Match colors."

So the grille was an option.  Maybe the original owners didn't see the need to buy this item.

It DOES

Have the grill button, but I know some Americanas do too, but they use a small griddle, Im sure this had the griddle, but since the house was sold when the original owner died, its long gone..

Update on the GE

It did clean up beautifully, but as usual the Sensi Temp does not work...Im beginning to wonder if they ever did, or was it something everyone dreamed, Typical GE, it could use new door hinges, that was their weakest point, not absolutely necessary but will be before long, the oven is heating now , it was 50 degrees off so I adjusted it, I hope it levels out because that is as far as it can be adjusted....So far, I think its the best LOOKING range I have ever seen, but quality wise, its no Frigidaire, Unless I can find Sensi Temp parts it will probably go to the building.....
